Hello everyone. I just ordered my complete wiring harness from JBugs. We plan on doing this job on our own, does anyone have any tips for us??? We would sure appreciate it. We are still VW novices and this is our first bus. We've only had it since March, so she's still new to us. Thanks to all. _________________ Peace!

Hullo there!! I'm new to site, obviously. Anyway, a site search brought me to this section and it looks as though it fits what I'm looking for.
The wife and I recently purchased a '71 transporter and plan to convert it to a camper, modified. There are many things, the list is long but one of the most important will be new wiring. I simply don't trust the PO jury rigs and I don't want to create a "chariot of fire". So anyways, we are in the market for a new wiring harness and this post seemed to mirror our situation exactly! So, how did this work out for you? Did you get the Jbugs one? Are they recomended? Any feedback would be greatly appreciated! Thanks again!

FYI - the person that started this thread last visited the Samba in 2009 so you probably won't hear from them... _________________ '71 Westy

Isn't it odd that you never hear a conclusion to any of these "I'm gonna rewire my bus with aftermarket stuff" topics?, I guess they all end up as abandoned projects.
Thirdman, start a build thread on your bus and edit the title to reflect the question of the day, post some pics of this mess as well, many times it's not nearly as bad as you believe and by fixing one circuit at a time you can have it done fairly quick. _________________ Rust NEVER sleeps and stock never goes out of style.

Don't worry, mine will be done in a couple of weeks. We'll see how well it works. |

| Hey thanks for the tip! I'd love to start a build thread. This bus is perfect for it. Rust problems, wiring jury rigs, door malfunctions, the works. Ive got little to no expierince with VWs and wiring and welding to boot, so this will be a very steep learning curve for me. I'll start a build thread and see how it goes. |

I agree with both comments!
First thing I do to a new Bus is go over all the wiring and get it back to stock so I don't lose my head later. Usually things work a lot better when all the wires are where they are supposed to be! Unless there are melted sections I'd try to keep the old stuff going... _________________ '71 Westy

I ran a dedicated10g wire, fused at the battery, to 12V outlets on the tool box and dashboard. Works well for the laptop, GPS and 12V electric blankets.

That's substantially different than ditching every inch of OG wiring and using something like those Watsons hot rod or buggy universal wiring kits like some of these big thinkers propose _________________ Rust NEVER sleeps and stock never goes out of style.

Whoa ho, that's a lot of money! I mean, I have no doubt it's worth it. The other ones from bus depot and jbugs must not be "complete" harnesses. Because that's a very substantial price gap! I'm guessing this is the one you used? |

the ones at bus depot is not the full harness, I belive it is the just the main line that runs from front to rear? . My friend use'd the one mentioned above, it's very nice but has a 11 week wait time on it . here is there website http://www.volksgoods.co.uk/looms.php _________________ 75 west deluxe http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?p=5270450#5270450
