1500 single port engine pulley won't move

I have a 1500 single port engine that the pulley has no give. I've herd that's bad news. As of now I don't have the exhaust on so I don't want to run the engine is it possible the engine is ok ? I'm new to vw beetles any info would be great Cool

What is the pulley suppose to be giving you??

Perhaps he is referring to endplay.

There should only be a very little endplay - .003 to .005 inches. Lots of (most?) people can't really see this much movement.

What you should notice is a little "click" as you push and pull on (but not turn) the pulley and it reaches the end of its travel.

If the engine is used, it's highly unlikely the endplay is zero, since the engine usually seizes in a relatively short period of time in that case.

If the pulley turns easily with the spark plugs out, and you can't easily see the endplay movement, it's probably ok.

On the other hand, if the pulley won't turn (don't try to force it!), the engine is almost certainly going to need a rebuild.

Are you meaning the PULLEY will not turn? Not sure what you are saying here. Have you obtained service manual like we told you to in the other post about the breaks.

Always take plenty of breaks when working on your brakes.
