so I finally got my 72 vert together and not leaking oil and was out to a meeting tonight. I drive there with the top down. there is a little gasoline smell. I put the top up for the ride home and the gasoline smell is much more pronounced. anybody got some
pointers? what can I replace next? and to boot, my brake lights don't work. ow for some reason. what a maintenance hog

Did you top off the fuel? I did that in mine and discovered a leak in the top of the tank at the fuel sending unit. There will be one (or probably two, in your case) wires going to the unit and about six screws that hold it in place. The gaskets can go back there.

Just a thought, it could be a ton of other things.

Your choices are:
1. leaky filler hose
2. hole in tank
3. poor seal in sender
4. cracks/leaks in vapor hoses
5. leak in fuel line in tunnel

Start with the "easy to rule-out" and go from there. If you search, there's a ton of threads on fuel smell elimination.
