| I like those thin Whitewall tires. I wish they were still available at a reasonable price. |

Interesting? Yes it's from an April '57 car so if you don't have any accompanying documental history, any mileage is purely conjecture.
That doesn't take anything away from it...it's still a diamond. _________________ John.

| Yeah, I agree, it's a nice solid Ghia. And hey, while that speedometer might not be the original, at least it came from a Ghia originally! |

guess i will never know the true mileage.i would guess many don't know their cars true mileage. i am going thru the brake system, new hoses, master cylinder and wheel cylinders. the rubber brake line hoses on the car looked brand new but two of them were clogged up.cant trust those rubber lines! the 57 speedometer explains why i couldn't understand its wiring for the car. may try to find one dated 63.
i am trying to keep the car in its original condition. over the years these cars seem to get "nongermaned" with parts. i am in search of a fuel pump to replace the existing one. thanks |

Yep even when you have history from the original owner they quite often they can't remember how many times it's been "around the clock"
Don't get too hung up about "nongermaned" parts. In the days of the Internet we're spoilt, in that it so easy to source the correct parts. Rewind 30 years and you would have been grateful to find anything that would have kept your car on the road. _________________ John.

Well with that speedo you'll never know what the miles are, but it looks like a very good car anyway. To still be in that sort of general condition it won't have gone around the clock more than once is my guess.
As far as the 'non-german' parts go, remember that at almost 50 years old this car has been through a stage where it's just an old car (like 20 years old) to keep running on a shoestring compared to now where it is an appreciating(ed?) classic.
Just go through the brakes, clean out the fuel system properly and drive! You'll probably find the engine has some oil leaks after not being used - oil cooler seals, flywheel seal and pushrod seals are likely to require replacing at a minimum. While you have the motor out check if you have the early 40HP long head studs, and replace them with the short ones if you do.
You are a lot closer to driving your '63 than I am to driving mine! I did about 3000 miles in mine the first few years I had it, then have stripped it down for resto and it's still apart.
