| My son pulled the dipstick tube with dipstick clean out of the case on my 66 1600 sp on accident. This common ? Can we just press it back in or is this more serious now ? |

| I have never heard of that before. i would stick it back in but put some JB weld on the tube to help hold it in there. Make sure the surfaces are clean enough to make the JB apply well. Let it set up overnight. |

Will this cause an oil leak ? Oil pressure issue ? I tapped it back in and seems in good now, but wondered |

| Won't affect oil pressure, just make sure it dosn't leak your oil out, you will be fine. |

It was origionally put in as preasure fitting. I have seen it before. Was the engine warm when it came out. Old engines sometimes do that. The JB weld is a good idea. Don't get it in the case though. it should not leak or cause any preasure problems. It is just a tube. _________________ "Si vis pacem, para bellum - If you want peace, prepare for war."

I just rebuilt the motor and it was after it was running for 30 minutes. Talk about a bad moment. 2 weeks of rebuilding, tins on, first run and that LOL. Good to know its not a bad thing. I pressed in by hand and then used a small tac hammer to lightly tap 2x for good measure. Seems nice and snug now, but will keep an eye on it. Thank you. |

| Can you tell if you're getting the tube back in at exactly the same spot? if it's a little off, the oil level reading on the dip stick will be off. |

Thats a good question. I don't know, really. The tin is kind of in the way. I just drooped in down in and did the little tap x2. It probably isnt perfect, but I did put just over 2.5 quarts in post rebuild 40 miles ago, and I checked it 30 miles ago and remember the mark. Looks about right now. I plan on changing the oil again at 300 miles, then the usual 2k. Thanks for the help |
