Does it have the gas set-up, or can that be added to it later? How old is it, how much use has it had, why are you selling it... Does it come with any extras (spools of wire, helmet, tools etc...) I'm pretty sure that's a 110 volt unit, although you might ask about the amperage of the circuit breaker it requires (25 amps would be my guess). They usually go for around $500+ new so unless it's beat, I would think around $300 would be a good offer. _________________ scrapyards are for quitters

| I've been reading good reviews on the Eastwood welders. They sell their MIG 135w/ reg. and hose for gas. Infinitely adjustable heat and wire speed, all for $300 NEW and a three year warranty. But, I have no personal experience with it. |

I saw this welder at Home depot and the price seemed pretty good. But is this welder capable welding jobs, for instance; I plan on putting air bags on my bug. Would I feel confidante on using this particular welder to weld the pieces of hardware I'm going to need to accomplish this? The amp rating is only 35 to 80. Or will I need something with a little more higher amp rating?
I plan on getting the weld on kit for IRS from airkewld and I want to make sure that a welder like this one from Lincoln could handle it. It says it can weld steel up to an 1/8 of an inch. I talked to some people who do welding on cars and such and they say a lot of the brackets on vw's and other vehicles are no more than an 1/8 of an inch thick anayways, and this welder can handle the work with no problems. They say you can't go wrong with Lincoln quality.
Any comment?
Thanks |

| I have no problem with Lincoln welders. However, the ones sold at Lowes and Home Depot are not the same as the ones from a welding supply store. There are different parts in them that a Lincoln dealer can't/won't order and usually refuse to work on them. Sold my Lincoln for this reason. Hobart Handler 140 is a fine welder. I did step up to a MillerMatic 211 when they first came out, but it is pricey for someone only planning on doing one vehicle. |

I understand that the other welders may be of better quality, but from the research I've been doing those little Lincolns are very good for the tasks I previously mentioned. I've seen the work those Harbor Freight welders do and even those small 90amp welders from Freight do a decent job for some one who knows how to weld. But the Lincolns I think are better.
I talked to the guy at Home Depot where they sell them and he told me if anything were to go bad that they would just give me another one in replacement. Good for me I don't have to mail anything back since they are local, just a 10 min. drive. Not to mention all the other kudos I received from people I know who do auto welding. I think for the bucks its a good bang.
Further comments welcome........ |

I have a Lincoln welder that I bought from Home Depot in 1999 with the gas set-up. I've welded everything on my car with it from 1/4 inch to 22 gauge without a problem. Great machine for the money! Parts are also readly available if something does go. _________________ scrapyards are for quitters

Yes I'm pretty confidant With the small Lincoln welder, especially when Home Depot reassured me if anything went wrong they would replace it.
I think its a done deal.
Thanks to all..... |

I have a hobart handler 135 - I bought it new (as a discontinued item) with a welding cart. It came packaged with the gas connections (so this one should have those, but double check). I paid $450 for the setup. I love it. I would think a used one would be worth no more than $300...
Also, Home Depot's Lincoln weldpak 140 (comparable to the Handler 135) goes for $524 at my local HD) - so it's twice as expensive (after tax) as the used welder if you can get it for $275... _________________ Wish List:

As far as welding accessories go, I think this is the best thing to come along since sliced bread! $28 bucks at Eastwood!

I like the Hobart. One other thing to think about, the Hobarts have a less adjustable range of settings (1 thru 4) and then make internal adjustments for the wire speed to ensure you get proper penetration.
At first I thought it was a setback since I had less manual control of the machine (not "infinite" settings), but now I realize that my welds have always had proper penetration and I have spent less time trying to figure out the "sweet spot" for my welding. _________________ Wish List:

I'd buy it for that price! New and $125 dollars off list is a good deal that doesn't come along that often. _________________ scrapyards are for quitters
