I agree with the comments about the lighting. Although I may not have had such an issue had I arrived bright and early to get a better spot!
Would also liked to have had the cars sorted by class as well.
No offense, but I really didnt see the point of the club guys getting the first floor to themselves. I made that wrong turn, and although the guy directing me back to the upper floors was cool about it & complimented my rig, I never made it back down to check out their cars. _________________ Kevin Albrecht

Thanks for putting on the show!
Yes, it was a bit dark in the parking garage. I moved from my first spot to a better lit spot. Basically hung in the swaps all day, and the whole level filled up, noice! ( There was a show car area? ) We we lucky with the weather, but it could well have been raining and in that case everyone would have been psyched with the cover. Rained on us on the way home in the evening.
Nice to be seeing people. CFTC is next weekend, Sunday May 6th, 2012.

Yep, thanks for the reminder! My wife and I were just talking about this last night; had a feeling like it was coming up soon. We should be there in the Jetta, since the beetle is ripped apart mid-resto at the moment. _________________ - e

| Thanks Mike for putting together the Show--we never know how our weather is going to be---the weather report said that we were suppose to have rain yesterday ---everyone would have been happy that you had it in the garage ----yes it was a little dark but a lot better than being in the rain--looking forward to next year--Don't let the negative comments scare you off---you and your crew did a great job--Thank You |

For the record, I was trying my hardest to not come across as negative. Rain, shine, parking garage, open field or in a cave without light next year: I'll be there.
But you can't make something better without a little constructive criticism. I would say 95% of my experience was positive, the other 5% related to the low light and smog factor... in my book, 95% is a success. Nothing negative about that. _________________ - e

Though, I didn't think the parking garage had any benifits past being under cover and out of the potential weather. The lighting was so dim in areas I had a difficult time browsing the swapmeet, admiring the details of the show and taking decent pictures. And with cars running their engines (at times), the air quality was less than desirable (though, I guess that it adds to the gritty charm).
I'd rather chance the weather to be out in the light and have a bit better ventalation; I'd show up rain or shine anyway. Besides, that's the charm of the Pacific Northwest.
Again, I had a great time and hope to have my beetle done for next year, just a little feedback on the venue.
Thanks for putting it on! |
thanks for the feed back , we are noting all of it to make changes for next year. |

One suggestion I have that can take advantage of that structure...it is dependent though on whether you guys had the whole thing rented out:
Think of it like a convertible: Sun is out, top is down. If it is sunny (or the April equivalent, NOT RAINING), use the top floor of the garage that is open to the sky to fill up with car show cars. If it is a more typical rainy and crummy April Sunday, use the covered floors. There was enough room in that structure for all the car show cars to get spots with decent light, just because it didn't happen for some of us this time doesn't mean it isn't possible.
I think I would like to see VWs grouped by type as another poster suggested....puts folks of similar taste in VWs together and that can really help generate a lot of cross talk about them that helps all of us get and give ideas about how better to preserve these old VWs. However, that may be tough to do as far as setting aside space if you are not sure how many cars of each type (Beetles, or Buses, or Squarebacks, etc.) are coming.
That's my .02. Well done, Mike, thanks again for a fun (and dry) event. |

We had a great time. Swap turnout was pretty good. That is my favorite part of a show, so that is what I usually comment on. We had no problem with the slight darkness of the garage. I had a small flash light that helped when digging through boxes of greasy parts.
Thanks for throwing this shindig. The indoor setup and it's minor shortcomings far outweigh the possibility of standing in the rain. There was some slight confusion getting to the correct lineup area for the swap, but not a big deal overall. Our weekend host led us to the wrong entrance when we got there. Simple mistake, and not a big issue. Better signage may have helped us though.
Looking forward to the next one, as this one was a lot of fun _________________

I had a great time as well! I like wythac's suggestion of using the top floor for the car show etc... if its not raining.
Thanks for putting on the show!! |

such great work. I was even encapsulated by Gail's brownie video. Very well done. I hope he does more aircooled VW events. _________________ It's not how wide your hatch is, it's what you do with it.
