Bought the car painted and found that the gutter for the hood seal... still had part of the hood seal in it... for the last 60 years!

Just think of all the bad stuff that kept you from doing today!

If you didn't have that to deal with you probably would have just gotten into some sort of trouble.

Well at least you did it right. I dug my seal out when I was young "know it none" 30 years ago and used a smal screw driver to pry it out. Took me hours to "tap...tap just tap out" every bump. Embarassed

The old rubber probably kept 14 layers of primer, sanding dust, and paint from filling the channel and making it impossible to install the new seal Very Happy

i recently put a seal in a 54 i am putting together for a friend. it still had the old seal in the channel but cut off the part you see. it took me about 2 days to get the now primered and painted in place seal piece out so i could install the new one.
