Over the pond as they say.
Wish I could keep them all. If I had the room I would.

don't know why it doesn't have a title |
Title or not, there's some very rough spots on this bus. I think the price is reasonable, but not good deal worthy...

Any thoughts on this one:
http://www.thesamba.com/vw/classifieds/detail.php?id=1302356
I'm in buying mode and although the color on this one wasn't necessarily my cup of tea (nor the animal print) I did like that it appears to be in good shape and a turn key driver. I spoke with the seller and he says it's fairly rust free (he is sending me more pics of the underside). |

Thanks again.
So, based on your expertise can you all give me you opinions as to what's the best deal in the for sale section right now for a solid (mostly rust free or rust repaired) driver under 12K? Just looking for something to drive most days and fix up along the way.
Thx. |

may not be the best "deal" however it seems solid and he said he did daily it. its lowered a little but not slammed and the brakes are already upgraded. ready for a bigger motor. and the best thing i see with this bus besides being a camper, is the fact that its OG paint. nothing is hiding like bondo or half ass repairs. _________________ 1960 Bus Panel/Camper |

Thanks. I kinda know Joe (Gnome) but have never seen his bus in person. Problem is he's right at the top of my price range which doesn't leave me a lot of room to do much else to the bus. I might have to go have a look at it though and see.
Thanks again guys, I'm a total newb to vintage VW's so it's great to have you all as a resource.

Spend the most for the nicest bus you can get unless you can do the work yourself. $13K seems pretty cheap considering what you are getting for that bus. I am fixing my 57 Panel and things are costing $500 here, $1000 there pretty fast.
Mechanical work, good running engine etc can cost alot of bucks, not to mention labour. _________________ 57 PGSG 'Carpet Bus'

Thanks for the info again.
So if I'm buying a bus that needs work is it better to look for one that has a great engine, trans, brakes, etc basically one that is solid mechanically but has body/rust problems that need to be addressed. Or is it better to look for a solid body with little or no rust but the drive train needs attention? |

Both are gonna be expensive to fix because Im guessing you do not plan on working on the bus. Personally, I would rather buy an OG paint bus because there isnt any PO hacks hiding under the paint. Like who knows what is under the paint in that orange bus, not saying it wasnt done right, but too many times you buy something that is full of bondo instead of metal and its "restored".
No matter what unless you pay more money you are buying a used 40-50 year old vehicle. Its going to need work. Buy what you feel is right. Its your money and your bus. If you want nice shiney paint and trust who is selling it, then buy it. If you want a driver right now, then settle for a less than perfect to you outside. _________________ 1960 Bus Panel/Camper |
