It's also alot easier to fix the rust and other things when it's not lowered. It makes a big difference when you're getting a bus ready for the road knowing you can just slide under and tweak few things instead of doing the two jack dance. _________________ 57 PGSG 'Carpet Bus'

Lower it, but drive it stock first. That way you know if the stock tranny and RGB's have any issues. If you lower it right, it's all a bolt-on affair. It can be changed back to stock in a weekend. The offset of Raders will likely cause some rubbing in the front wheel wells, depending on tire size and the mass of the front seat passengers. A narrowed beam will solve that issue, but then un-lowering it would be more involved. Stock wheels are best in this situation.
Lowered buses and trucks can and have been used for camping, hauling, long distance touring, daily drivers, etc. It's all personal preference.
Cool truck, I dig the interior. Black diamond pleats are the shizz......

Nice SC !! It displays evidence of surviving every decade between then and now!
My unsolicited advice would be to repair any and all issues with that truck before buying any whizzy lowering stuff.
That includes rust repair, bondo removal, engine running tits, electrical, etc.
Once all that is done, if you still feel the urge to lower it, then get busy- after you have repaired all other issues and got to know the truck a little bit. _________________ The plural of anecdote is not data
Lowering trucks or campers makes zero sense to me. BUT a lot of bus owners are doing it. I think the number one difference is non-lowering folks want to use there busses for what they were meant...such as camping or hauling. Why would you spend money for a "look" that actually limits the use of a vehicle?
The whole hobby makes zero sense to a lot of other people so, hey to each his own.
I've camped in my lowered bus, and I haul and tow in my lowered truck. Thanks!
Easy killer, I'm always amazed how defensive everyone seems to be about this. Of course you can haul and camp, you just cant go everywhere. I like the versatility of stock height. If you don't think a slammed bus limits it's use...well nevermind. _________________ "If you don't do it this year, you'll be one year older when you do." -Warren Miller

Hello, after yrs of hunting for the right one, I finally got my SC!! Nice (IMO ) 57 SC…. It was restored by PO 35 yrs ago and garaged for last 20ys (according to PO, due to knee and back problems)… anyway I’m excited about it… and so is my wife… (I told her 2 weeks after I bought it) she was a Great sport about it… So here she is!!! (name TBD) once I get her running and braking… I plan to lower front and back w complete drop kit from Airkewld, hope to put radars w/o having to put on narrow beam$$ Airwewlk said it will work) I know I need T1 IRS tranny and axles…. PO says motor is SP 1600cc w about 600miles on it…. (we’ll see) I have DP 1600cc in garage I plan to make a 1776cc to put later, once all the kinks are worked out. Tell me watch think, any suggestions? Pointers?
Super Stoked for you brother. If you need any pointers on the custom side, drop us a line. Love the diamond pattern interior, is it restorable? Could be a retro look? _________________ Airkewld Customer Service

Being new to the spitty world. someone please "esplain" the big divide to lower or not to lower?
It's a matter of personal opinion, though holy wars have been waged here over it. I'm from the stock height school of thinking, but if you do lower it, try not to do anything that can't be unbolted and returned to stock.

Dont worry about what everyone else has... be proud that YOU can finally join the dove blue commercial crew. Its a very vast and proud group. Best color vw ever painted a vehicle.
I also suggest driving it around stock and dialing it in 100% before you lower it. (dont lower it *whispers*)
Most get in... spend thousands to lower and look cool and in the process either the bus never gets finished due to the extra cost and NO money left to make it drivable.... or once they drive it they realize it sucks so bad that they end up selling it.
Ive seen it 100s of times in my life and its not gonna go away any time soon.
stock... costs you... tires/shocks/brakes/cables/bulbs. (if engine and trans are good). Drive and attend to the rest as you can.
Lower = MINIMUM 10k to do it right. Read that twice before crying in response. Yes you can drive around with a singleport 1600 and a beat down old trans that someone gave you, but in the end you end up moving toward a 2 liter stroker and built trans. engine 6k trans 1k. Now what did the bus cost you, and the entire narrowed whizzbang suspension? yeah.... its costly.
If your a baller and you wanna look cool, ok no problem. Buy the bus and drop serious cash in it. Nobody will say anything. but if your new to this and on a budget, drive it and enjoy it for the YEAR that it will take you to gather all the parts to lower it.
Thats all im trying to say. _________________ Nothing can stop the man with the right mental attitude from achieving his goal; nothing on earth can help the man with the wrong mental attitude.
