After five years, it is getting to be time to replace the battery in my Fastback. I went exploring Interstate, and I called them to ask where I might fight a dealer who sells Group 42 batteries. I was told they have phased them out and a Group 47 battery will serve in its place (with a higher CCA by the way). Anyone hear similarly or have used the Group 47 battery?
Thanks. _________________ (1) No matter what the world brings, I am never anything but happy driving my Ghia.
(2) The Fastback is running, rolling and, especially important, stopping. Interior is done. Driving more often; commuting on occasion. Dreaming of paint.

Hmmm. I thought a 47 was a larger case size- may not fit. _________________ Give A Pal a Hand!

Thanks for the reply Tram. According to the Interstate website, the 42 is 1/8th of an inch wider and the 47 is 1/4 of an inch taller. What do you think, does 1/4 inch under the seat make a difference? _________________ (1) No matter what the world brings, I am never anything but happy driving my Ghia.

I can buy a 42 at Advance Auto. I was just curious to know if anyone else had heard that Interstate discontinued 42s and claim to replace them with the 47s. It would fit in my Ghia without question, but under the seat in the Fastback might not work. _________________ (1) No matter what the world brings, I am never anything but happy driving my Ghia.

you might put a cheap rubber mat over the battery for that little margin of
insulation. _________________ 70 fastback automatic 06 invader |

| Ive thought about that, but I have side post on my truck, and I hate it. When tightening the bolts, the power connects on and off, causing issues with my stereo, and those tiny terminals make it a pain for jump starting |

My opinion on side post batteries is that they are one of the worst "innovations" ever- and they've never improved. My first encounter with them was on my parents' new 1973 Pontiac Grand Safari wagon. Every so often, just out of the blue, my mom would go to start it, and zippo. Tighten or clean the terminals, and good. It got so that they kept a 3/8" wrench and a bottle of Coke in the car- there's nothing like Coke to clean battery terminals! _________________ Give A Pal a Hand!

The Interstate Group 47 is in and working without incident. It fit without any particular challenges. I will post immediately if problems arise. Hopefully this thread will be of value for anyone told Interstate doesn't make a Group 42 anymore. _________________ (1) No matter what the world brings, I am never anything but happy driving my Ghia.
