Memory Lane Sodaware is where I ran into Jeff Walters later in life.
He was selling misc. parts for soda machine restorations and well as writing a few books on the subject...

The Westdale van did not come from Chipp's graveyard. It was purchased from former bus nut John Kellestine of St. Catherines. He had originally found it in Grimsby, I believe. I have a slew of photos of the retrieve.

Yea, it was in an old shed or barn with a 52 pickup that is now in NY...As of yesterday the remains of the Chipps yard were pulled out for the crusher. I am going to make one last attempt to get a hold of the new owner and try and make one last pass through. I live down the road and have been going there nearly 20 years and my dad before that. I wished I`d pulled all 5 Bds out a long time ago, but always figured they were beyond fixing..that was then and now is different.... the new owner is not vw-friendly and doesn't seem to like people on the property...

Eric
I stopped at the Chipps yard in spring of '98. John showed me around as I was looking for a small taillight for the '55. He took me in the barn and showed me where he had at least a dozen pressed bumpers in the rafters
I bet they are still there. Go get 'em!!
I always said I was gonna go back, even just to take pictures..so many buses with sign writing on them! Would of made a cool calendar

I've been all through that property dozens of times. The bumpers are long gone and now so is the barn. Most everything got piled up in a big heap for scrap when the new owners bought it and got crushed. There are a few splits left but I've made sure there isn't any good stuff left on them... I also pulled most of the bumpers from the buses in the fields over the last 15 years. All of them have ended back up on buses that are on the road now which is much better than getting crushed. Got a hold of the new owner, he says the last few are leaving this week, and he won't let me on to save stuff. At least I tried... there really isn't much, if anything, anyway....

Yes, they were mostly all logo buses too. My favourite was the '55 Diaper Service bus with the stork on the side, but it was way beyond fixing even by today's standards.

Actually the pickup came from a basement garage about 20 miles from Chipps. I was in on that retrieval as well. (And have a bunch of photos.) The pickup now belongs to my buddy in Western New York. It's the oldest known singlecab and one of the better BDs to come out of Canada.

John and I were some of the first barndoor hunters in Ontario, but what we found was usually too expensive or too far gone for the time. I never thought the day would come that they would be so desirable in any condition, and that there would be so much restoration talent out there.
