PostPosted: Sat May 12, 2012 4:07 pm    Post subject: A1 Header wont clear Oil Filter Reply with quote

Does anyone had a problem installing an A1 Sidewinder 1 1/2 tubing Header (J-Pipe) with this setup :
http://vwparts.aircooled.net/Bugpack-32mm-Bypass-Filter-Oil-Pumps-p/3030-10-3030-11.htm.
The oil filter does not clear, it hits the header.

Any sugestions how to make it work.

Thanks

Can you relocate the filter? My A1 fits no problem but my filter is off to the side?

Which one, for some reason my setup is very tight, I use Wix 51515, did not work, OC-25 which is the smaller, OC-49, none of them work. The pipe that curves going to the J-pipe is the one in the way. Another guy suggested to use the one for a Rabbit but Im waiting for him to reply to see if I can get it locally.

.The oil filter will bake in that location regardless of how small the filter is!Do a remote location for the filter . Leave the A-1 as is it will work great. CB sells a Maxi in out pump that you can then mount a remote filter to and even a remote cooler as well. This will serve you better in my humble opinion than the filter pump. The header costs a whole lot more than both the filter pump and the maxi pad Exclamation

If you run a filter pump you need the Flanged version of the Sidewinder, which puts the 1/3 J-tubes in the STOCK location. The inboard location is stupid (IMO), it not only interferes with filter pumps, but also the stock thermostat, and Sled Tins.

John, Im willing to try it however I happen to have a Mahle OC-25
http://motorsports8.tripod.com/id36.html and it wont clear either, its 3.5 long, unless the one you are suggesting is smaller. The clearence is notnthe diameter of the oil filter its the length.

Yes the CB pump posted is the one. Not a bad alternative considering where you are at this stage of the game. Just take off the anodized cover and make sure the inner oil passages are not restricted or have any metal boogers . This will end the search for a small filter that still will get cooked by the header. You will have filtration, and clearence.
