pretty cool to see one driving
reminds me of my friend Kurt in Germany who built a 68 with modified Kuebel front and RGBs and then drove it via Greece to Egypt and made some laps around the pyramids. _________________ regards

Nice video. But I am rally surprised that the owner still believe that this car is a real KDF- car. The engine sounds horrible - and it sounds like the owner has neverer heard something about changing a gear in the ouble clutch style

Even worser than pretending a replica being a KdF plus being unable to properly operate a crashbox is to cover the enging cooling air intake grill...the owner will kill the motor in doing that.

Its funny how all "car experts" seem to wear those sports car caps and have mustache's..... I agree, he def. needs to learn to shift. other than that Im not that well versed in splits. So I can make any objective remarks. Does anyone know this guy? _________________ 56oval

He sure DOESN'T know how to drive the crash box trans! Won't last long driving it like he does. You can hear a low cylinder when he originally cranked the engine.
Man.... I'm sure glad I am perfect _________________ 1955 VW BUG European Deluxe Delivered to Holland. 1700cc single port, Zenith 2 barrel. Porsche A drum brakes.

(00:37) 1955 was the year the one millionth Beetle was made, not the 5 millionth.
Still pretty cool, I had been to their website in the past, they are definitely into old military vehicles. Yes, that engine sounds really bad, like it is missing a cylinder or two. And he obviously has no idea how to shift a crash case. And I truly hope that the oil pressure sender wire is just disconnected, rather than him knowing it is low oil pressure and he is just ignoring it and driving the car.
If he is truly misinformed about the authenticity of the car, its a little disappointing. But if he knows what it is and it misrepresenting it (like the infamous 1945 Army Beetle now in P.R.), that is a little more than disappointing. Not speculating on what the real story is however...
So do I read above that the car has since been sold?? _________________ John Henry

I am sure the oil pressure sender is working just fine. Watch when he starts applying the revs, the light goes out.
Anyhoo, I am sure about a million VW enthusiasts have told the guy that what he really has is an early 50's bug with Kuebelwagen running gear and some early bolt-on parts. But if the guy wants to believe he has a real KdF, that's his fantasy.

John took the words from my mouth. I kept asking myself, why doesn't he see the oil pressure light is on?
Just out of curiosity, why do you guys think it isn't authentic? Hanson's story would seem to check out. There's was a letter published in Volkswagen Greats magazine in the '70s from the old owner, and I still have that copy.

check out when he opens the hood in the video. that's the biggest give away right there that it's not a true KDF body.
when the car was last listed for sale it even stated in the for sale ad that the body was that of a 51 split.
however the pan and running gear are another story.

With the front hood open, there should be the elephant ears on each side of the cylindrical gas tank.
Instead, he's got a 50 and later tank in it, which would not fit a true KDF car. _________________

It´s the small tank up to mid 1949.
But still post KdF. _________________ Master of my domain!

I thought the cylindrical gas tank only went to '43, and the small, square tank started in '44. The square tank was intended to clear the front differential on the 4WD cars.

As far as I know there was no square tank during war time.
Can somebody tell us when the first ones where built in?
The KdF freaks? Anyone?
And I do not think the new design was introduced for more front axle space compared to the round one. I think the space is quite similar, and how many beetle bodies with 4WD where made? Very few. _________________ Master of my domain!
