We need pics of that smile and that bus on the road. Congratulations! |
I'll see what I can conjure up today. Going to get a new dog too so that might make for a good photo op. _________________ 1967 L518 Type 1 |

Here's a picture as promised, a little late but whatever. Getting gas for the first time with my new border collie. She loves riding in the bus almost as much as I do!

Went to the DMV to get my VIN verified and have my YOM plates assigned, but the lady doing the VIN verification said she had to mark it as a commercial vehicle because I don't have my rear seat in. So now I'm off to temporarily put my z bed in the back then go back again. DMV, you suck. _________________ 1967 L518 Type 1 |

I had to go old school and spray the whole bumper, I ma clean it with paint thinner later to kill some of that shine and get it dirty.

Got the z bed in, took it back to DMV for another VIN verification and the guy said that pre 65 VW's dont show the year via the VIN so he could put the year down as 0000 and give issue me new plates or I could go to the nearest VW dealership to have them verify the year, then go back to DMV and have my YOM plates assigned. I ended up going to the dealership, met a very knowledgeable service department manager who has a 64 Sundial and 67 Kombi who had his buddy with a VIN verification license come out and do the verification. So 3rd times the charm, going in tomorrow to finish things up. I'll say it again, DMV, you suck! _________________ 1967 L518 Type 1 |

I feel your pain.
It took me 3 vacation days, a 15 day wait for an appointment at the CHP, a sick day, and a 4th trip to the DMV to register my Vespa. |

Broke down. Lots of backfiring and funky oil pressure. Valves tightened up (so I thought). Readjusted valves after the tow home. It ran for a few seconds then died. Funky oil pressure again. I'm thinking I sheared a cam gear bolt or two.
I'll pull the oil pump cover and check the oil pump gear drive to see if it is jacked up. Then I'll pull the pump. I'll order some low profile hardened allen head cam bolts just in case.

Damn, I don't feel so bad anymore. A $700+ order to WW didn't hurt either though _________________ 1967 L518 Type 1 |

I was having speedo troubles this spring - the needle was slow to move and would stick wherever it felt like. I had a speedo on the shelf from previous wrecking yard adventures so I tore it down, cleaned it up and reset it to 00000 and installed it. It works very well. GPS confirms its accuracy.
You'll note that its in Kilometers per Hour, not MPH, which is a bonus for me, as everything here in Canada is metric.
Oh so shiny. Ya, I know, the mirror is missing, waiting for new glass to be cut to reinstall. There's always something to do.... _________________ Make sure you disconnect the battery charger before starting to weld. |

How did the installation go Manny?
If you didn't use the threaded plates, is it still strong enough?
Joe from Vintage Metal Works just sent the Wolfgangs yesterday & I've been wondering if I should go all out or not.
