Thats what I've been doing, Mineral turps on the glass for the years of grime build up and autosol metal polish for all the shiny bits, makes a huge difference.

From the overhead shot you can see where there's some thinning paint on the one side of the roof........I might? do some spot painting/blending to cover up these areas in the future, I have to see how I feel about it?

I have made the decision I'm going to repaint the (2) front fenders for sure now, the car just doesn't look good the way they are right now.

The insurance issues might be settled by the end of this week? (crossing fingers) I'll still have another month to wait for my 1957 YOM plate to come back from the state offices, so if I'm lucky with all of that, I'll have the car on the road legally by Mid/Late June that's what I'm shooting for.

I'll post more photos as I start cleaning the car out.........

Finally worked out the insurance issue today and I should have my 1957 YOM plates off to Tallahassee soon! Smile

YAY!

In the meanwhile I hope to get to the interior this weekend, in time once my Father's back from the Hospital..........a number of family health issues with my Dad and myself has put the car on the back burner recently. :/

Here's another issue I'd like to address with the *preservation* on my car.........SURFACE RUST

Overall the floorpan is rot/cancer and hole free, but it does have surface rust all over it though, all the rest of the metal is solid, the running boards are maybe the most rusty areas of the whole car......

And under the front fenders and apron there's also some surface rust issues.......

The rear fenders don't seem to be as bad underneath as the front's are.......

Please Note:
So much that I know from the PO, the car never saw salted roads anywhere, though it seems that the areas that are the most rusty underneath the fenders seem to be where road dirt/spray would possibly splash up and collect, (especially around the lower lips of the fenders) the front fenders are considerably worse than the rear ones are and I suppose this might be because of the quality of the painting carried out at the dealer when they replaced the front fenders before the car shipped to the USA?

Here's my questions ~

What should I do to stop the rust (inhibit) it? and what can I do underneath the fenders to make them more presentable, presentable enough to show them off?
(if I display the car at a concours in a *survivor* class)
does anyone have any suggestions?

I want to preserve the car the best way possible, stopping the rust from becoming cancer and also saving the patina/original paint where ever I can. Wink

You sir have a beautiful car and I think Blauchen is going in the right direction. I wish I could give you some ideas for cleaning and preserving under the fenders, that does look like a needed area. Maybe a rust inhibiter should be applied. But any how good luck with the car, and I hope everything works out with your father.

I would like to add that I am new to the sight and the only reason I came to this sight was because I came within a day of acquiring a great '57 bug. Now I have bug fever and I am in full pursuit of a pre'68 bug. I will keep watching Blauchen's progress.

I would say "encapsulate" the rust. Stop it dead in it's tracks.

Is there any rust inhibiter out there that's CLEAR and FLAT finished based, to stop the rust (after the big chips are knocked off) and preserve the metal as is????

Not something like paint, that's white, or grey, that would look horrible in the underside of the car.

Does anyone know where I can find this stuff in America????

Considered trying what LT did on his oval? Probably the best way of cleaning /preserving an older original car
