Just doing some thinking out loud since we lost our carb rebuilder. There are so many people here who have carb problems.

What would you pay to have your progressive rebuilt? What turn around time would you expect?

What would you pay to have your 34-pict-3 rebuilt? What turn around time would you expect?

I wouldn't pay much to have a progressive rebuilt as I can find a new one on eBay for cheap. The 34pict3 would be a different story. I am of the opinion that the original carbs were probably better than the replacements and are therefore worth paying replacement cost for one that have been thoroughly gone thru and will give service equal to or better than what it did the first time around.

I guess if someone were to rebuild progressives and set them up so they ran absolutely A-1 and gave good gas mileage to boot, that service would be worth a lot.

What about mharney? I've heard good things...

I'd happily pay $150 for a perfect rebuild on a 34PICT. A few weeks seems right.

I paid Keifernet around $135 (exchange) for a rebuilt German 34PICT about 3? 4? years ago. At that time the price was good. The turn around time (from memory) was several weeks which was too much.

Sounds like we have some folks here who have it covered and I am off the hook again at having to revisit things left in the 1980's. I was concerned because we have all these posts from people having carb issues but now that I see there is someone else than former Keifernet, they have someone to go to.

Wildthings - 34 pict 3 is easier than a progressive. You'd have no trouble.

You haven't seen the 34PICT3 on my Thing. There is nothing that moves on it that isn't worn out I have done a decent enough fix on the throttle shaft bushing, but the choke butterfly shaft is sloppy in its bore and causes the choke to stick and the pivot for the accelerator pump arm is worn badly and as a result the pump doesn't give as much fuel per stroke as it should. I have welded up and redrilled several wallowed out holes in the various levers where springs and linkages attach and even welded up one end of accelerator pump linkage where it was worn almost in two.

Still needs to come apart at least one more time until I will be satisfied with it.

Contrast this with getting a brand new Holley progressive off eBay for $50.

I'd keep my eyes open for a replacement 34-pict-3. Wink That kind of wear is typical. We used to see it in progressives on Fiats too. I'd keep a bucket full from every wreck I found in the yards and rob parts to make a good one.

As I said earlier in this thread I would be willing to pay "new" prices for a high quality Solex 34pict3 rebuild, but for the progressive it is just cheaper to buy a completely new one off eBay. When you start with a core as crappy as mine, an individual probably can not easily do a rebuild that returns the carb back to new condition.

I'm using one of his carburetors. I'm definitely happy with it. Like you said, "amazing work".

Just picked up a 34-PICT4 off of eBay and am planning on giving it a try. Way less mileage than my existing 34-PICT3, can barely detect that it has been used at all. I think they are jetted pretty much the same as the 34-3, and just have a larger more complicated accelerator pump system.
