I don't understand why they've got sealer all over that engine. That's a problem looking for a place to happen.

I think it's just regular orange silicone. It hardens but stays flexible, like a rubber band. And yes, it can get squeezed out on the inside just as well. They really gooped it on! Shocked

Sorry, DasBlack- hopefully it won't be a problem but I'm frankly shocked to see that from an experienced engine builder. A very light coating of Kuril is all it should have anywhere.

tonight was D day for the wagon, got everything hooked back up, and got it fired up... took a few times for the pump to pick up the prime, and a couple little glitches, she is finally a runner, now tomorrow it time to get the brakes fixed in it so i can actually take her out and drive her

well this weekend its been 2 steps foward,a nd 5 steps backwards, got the rear brakes fully rebuilt, and relized the rear brake drums were less then to be desired, so i put in a order for 2 new drums, and while i was at it jacked up the front, and while it seemed like good brakes up front, have found out the front calipers are froze, and also noticed, i don't know what the reasoning was, but someone decided when they tried to lower the front they just turned the bump stops upside down i guess to try to force the front end down... WTF....liolzzzzzzzzzz, so i guess next weekend when i get my front brake parts together i will be thrashing on it again to get it ready for the upcoming season

I probably missed it, but is it still an Automatic- or does it just have the hatch lid for one?

Just run a new brake line in it. That's a typical cut to fix the clutch cable tube mounting point. The guy should have welded the piece back in, but it's not really hurting anything. You can do it or have it done if you want. No reason to abandon ship.

Yup, run a new line. I normally do it as a 2 piece line, as it makes it easier to fanangle into place.
The car is over 40 years old. That kind of stuff is semi-normal. Just make yourself an aluminum cap for it, and screw or rivit it on.
The guy should actually have welded the tube back onto the bracket, but it looks like he used a bunch of wire to hold it in place. Rolling Eyes

Better pull up all that insulation and dry out the pans. Clean/Master Series them and just use cotton padding that will stay dry.

Yeah, Mike's probably got a piece of tunnel section (minus the floor pans)sitting around that you could put over it too. Wink
