|
|
Hey guys, I used to own a '73 Squareback and a '74 Beetle. I got the bug for a new VW the other day when I drove my friends beetle. So, I got this '73 Bay Window for super cheap! However, I have a very large repair to make. I'm going to just get it on the road, fix the major dent, then start a restoration after I drive it a while and finish restoring my '67 Pontiac. I need to find a replacement vent window for the sliding door. Where is the best place to find the glass? Forgive my dumb question, but what is the technical name for that piece of glass? Just back door vent window? Thanks for any help and again, I appologize for the total newb question! I'm excited to have found this site and seems like a wealth of information. I will post progress pics as I address body issues and get her driving!
Thanks,
Nik C. |

Welcome!, rear vent window is the most common name, they aren't available new but there's always some in the classifieds. _________________ Rust NEVER sleeps and stock never goes out of style.

Here you can see I have my work cut out for me. I've had worse with old chevy's, but i'm hoping I can get this side straight again!
So far I am planning on keeping it two tone, white on top and hemispherical green on the bottom with white interior with green stitching. I want to get it quite a bit lower and on new wheels/tires. |

Whoops! I had my mind on my old '73 Squareback. Thank you! SO, out of curiosity, how can you tell? What are the differences?

Congratulations and welcome! The bus looks good, if the paint job is decent I'd probably repair that one panel and the get some matching paint for that area. That little vent window should be easy to find in the classifieds as mentioned, along with most other parts you will need.

OK, so I picked this bus up for $200. I feel like I got a good deal. My understanding is that I can pick up either a type I or type II engine for my bus. Is that correct? Another question, A friend has an early 70's (74 I think) Porsche 914 That I can get for next to nothing. Are there parts that I can salvage from the Porsche for my bus? Engine? my bus tranny would be stronger, right? What about brake parts or anything else? Again, sorry for the Newb questions!
Thanks,
Nik C. |

Don't waste your time with the Porsche, nothing will fit your bus. $200 is a smokin deal, as Westyman mentioned make sure the type 1 engine (also found in 68-71 type 2's) you find has the provisions for the rear mount. _________________ Rust NEVER sleeps and stock never goes out of style.
