I'm needing some help with my install and thought I should start a separate thread rather than loading up the sticky with my stuff. There doesn't seem to be many info threads for vert tops so maybe this will help others too.

I'm trying to install my front header seal so I can work on the headliner. I see two seals in the factory manual but I only have the one for the front lip.
#1 - What do you use for the second (inner) seal?

#2 - Do you install thin front seal so it is flush with the very front edge of the header? If so - then I guess the top cover seam has to be in line with the bottom of the seal - not the bottom of the wood.

Thin outer seal:

Flush with forward edge:

Are you sure that seal that you have pictured goes there? It looks like the seal that goes in the dip. The one pictured in the Bentley that goes on the front edge is shaped to the front of the Header bow, meaning it curves around on the ends. And looks to be much thinner.

EDIT: After reviewing the bentley again, it does appear to be the correct Piece of Rubber Seal. Whoops Embarassed

Hmmmm - This is the one I got from Chuck's and is labeled "front top seal" I was assuming I had to notch the corners to get it to bend around the curve.

Bentley says it is 10 mm thick - so that's roughly 3/8"which is what this seal is. The dip one is supped to be 18mm (almost 3/4").

Ain't no thing. I appreciate that someone is reading and trying to help. Very Happy I picked up some "camper seal" to use in the dip. Bentley calls for a piece of foam that is .7" wide by 1.4" thick. I'm just stacking it. Pics later.

You will need the '61-64 manual for the specs on bow spacing and a few other details. The '61 manual has a section on old style and new style, it is very confusing, I ended up calling Chuck a lot to confirm things. Also, measure bow spacing from the middle of the bows.
The rubber seal goes on the outer lip, it makes up the leading edge and then it curves around at the edges and you have to trim it so it tapers out. You will have to make a wedge cut in order to get it to bend. I opted not to use the inner seal as it created too much resistance when trying to close the top and I don't want to bust those damn latches.
Also, ignore all the junk about building the header bow up with fabric, your top has the pocket so it eliminates all that. Make double sure any staples you use to attack the headliner to the header bow are completely flush, and projecting staples, bunched fabric, etc will for sure show through the canvas.
Any questions ask Chuck, he really does know his stuff but you can also PM me for my number. I just did mine on my '60.

Good stuff! I've got the front seal on and WOW is that a squeeze to shut! I've made a template for cutting the header cover board. I'll post pics of that soon. I'm wondering if someone has a pic of the underside of their header after everything is finished? I'c like to see how the headliner and cover mate up once its all done.

BIG thanks to "lovethatconvertible" for volunteering and sending me the later Bentley to use. That should solve some things!

So here are a couple of pics of the header closed. At the moment, I have a seal installed which I may not leave in as it is not actually sealing anything. My concern is the gap that will be left if it is not left in.

No foam - gap:

Notice also how far inside the car/lip the header bow is. It's about 1/4" which makes me wonder about the headliner and board going across and back under right there.

If I leave the foam out and just wrap the headliner material back in, it seems there would be an odd looking gap????

That looks really good, nice work. Your Quarter window wood covering came out great, I wonder if you could Scotch guard the material on them just for easy cleanup? Have you located your mounting Holes for the Dome Light yet?
Do you have the Aluminum plates that go on the ends of the outer wood pieces? Not sure if your year has them. Keep the Pictures coming.

Edit: Scratch the Dome Light Question I see the Mounting holes now Very Happy

If you look closely at the last pic you can see the black line at the base of the outer piece - that's the rubber under the aluminum piece. I'll try to get a shot of it. When I mounted it, it made the drivers side piece too tall - kept the top from closing all the way forward. I trim about 1/8" off the base of the wood and all was good.

looks great! What was the deal with the head liner? Was it an early/late thing or did they just forget to add the additional hanger?
