| Nice brake setup, too. I could never bring myself to spend that much on brake calipers unless they were a necessity. |

| i went with that brake setup so i can get the off set of the wheels it's full potential so i didn't have to narrow the beam. if i would have went with just adapters in the front it would have shoved the wheel back out. regardless the front brakes had to be redone so 71 brake parts are just a little cheaper than the 944 stuff if you get a good deal on the hubs. |

Two questions. How much drop does a wagenwest beam provide by itself? And can the mounting holes on the beam be slotted to raise it? _________________ ON SALE TODAY, CHECK IT OUT.

These are questions that should be asked of the supplier. _________________

So have you changed your setup to something different? I'm all about the ride and the look. Would like a happy medium. I'll try not to narrow the beam, I think doing that is what makes for a rough ride. My Bug is narrowed 4" and I'm tired of it. IRS pan and B/J beam build coming soon. _________________ rpm750

I did change my setup. Raised the beam up to the 3rd notch on both tubes, adjusted the rear springplates back to stock (still have the 3.25" horseshoe plates) and went to 15" split bus rims with 195/65 front and 205/65 in the rear. It rides like a caddy now and I still like the look:
I may go a notch lower in the front but would probably need to go to a bit smaller tire (195/60 or 195/55). I like the fact that the tires now have a much higher load rating as well (safe since family rides in it) and the taller rear tire/rim is almost exactly the same height as stock. This gives me better rpm's in fourth gear. _________________ 67 SO-42

Thanks for the info. Looks great I'm trying to figure out what to do to mine and I only want to do it once. A pic of my Bus is in my signature.

Looks like a clean bus. A narrowed beam does affect ride but if you don't have it slammed and use dropped spindles for some of the drop the ride stays decent. Spindles only will not get you low enough (IMO) to make much difference plus you will rub on the inside of the dogleg with stock size tires.
Going really low and still having a good ride requires a lot of work (tubs/notched chassis, etc.) so keep that in mind. _________________ 67 SO-42

Having driven a 4 inch narrowed beam with drop spindles AND shocks for a few years now, I can tell you that it rides much better than you think. I dont think it is the slightest bit harsh. The bus is a much heavier vehicle than a bug and it also has alot more weight over the beam compared to a bug. |

That's the setup I have (4" narrowed beam with 2.5" drop spindles and shocks) and when it was on the bottom notch in both tubes the ride was much harder than now since there is less tension available from the springs. I really think two notches on both tubes is the lowest you want to go (with spindles) to expect a decent ride (IMO). Beyond that you really need tubs to get enough suspension travel as I frequently would bottom out on the top/inside of the dogleg.
This of course is just my setup, others may be different based on manufacturer of beam/spindles/etc. _________________ 67 SO-42
