Really! You must be thinking this guy is off his rocker, but hear me out. I will compare 356's to Split Buses. I think Split buses are expensive, and 356's are cheap in relation.

A decent Split bus costs from 15K to say 35K (let's not get into insano world 23's etc). That's what the shell is going to cost. There are very few parts you could remove from the bus and have it cost less. For example, removing the engine of a bus reduces it value by xxxx? Say 1000? 2000? But in reality, not by much.

Look at 356's. They're in the 20-35K range, some of course topping that (again, lets' not get too crazy here). Take a 35K Porsche and pluck off it's engine. How much would that reduce it's value? 5K? 10K? Porsche engines are mucho bucks.

A buses inherent value lies in it being a 'bus'. Wheres a 356 has alot of its' value in it's parts. Bumpers = $$$, gauges = $$$, seats etc. The value is in the parts. Whereas a bus is in it being a bus.

Also, count into how rare 356's really are compared to the more massively produced buses, and you have an outright bargain in a 356!

PS Please take with a few grains of salt Smile

You aren't off your rocker... watching good splitties sell for up to six figures has been a tough realization that things have changed. Sad
I have a 21 Deluxe and a 356. WAAAAY more money went into the Porsche over the past 15 years.

But value, schmalue... keepin' them both anyway. They're just cars.

I currently have 3 splitty buses and the 356. Glad I got them all before prices got crazy. Although none of mine are in show condition, I would have a difficult time replacing one with another if sold.

Actually, the VW bus is the nearest relative to the 356. Among many other things, both cars feature unibody construction, dual leading shoe brakes up front, and ZF steering boxes, unlike the Bug. (I know, I know, there are exceptions) Very Happy
