June 1-3, 2012

Mark your calendar to join Mid America Motorworks June 1-3, 2012 for the 14th annual Funfest for Air-Cooled VW!

Funfest is now a three-day event! Join us to celebrate the 40th Anniversary of the 1972 Beetle and the 15 millionth Beetle ever produced! Our guest of honor is a commemorative 1972 Baja Special Edition with just 780 miles. Mike Yager is thrilled to add this Marathon Blue Metallic Beetle to the MY Garage Museum collection.

The whirlwind weekend of events and activities includes road tours, technical seminars, Swap Meet, the ever popular Exhaust War Competition and Saturday evening entertainment.

Back by popular demand, we have a dedicated Herbie special display parking!

Last year, we moved the camping area closer to the event and made it a special display parking area. It was a hit! So, this year we are doing it again and also starting a special camping prize. More details coming.

We are also adding a NEW Low Speed Slalom for 2012! Each customer will receive 3 runs for $25 and the best time wins.

We are also proud to announce that a new VW book will be available at Funfest. A long-time goal of Mike and Laurie Yager's, the book features artistic photos of Volkswagens in all stages of life. The book has a personal connection to Mid America Motorworks too: most of the photos were taken by our staff photographer at Sun Ray Bugs, Corky yager's restoration facility in Florida. Register now to ensure you get a copy of the book!

For more information and to register, visit www.funfestacvw.com or call 866-350-4541.

Okay, so who is heading for MAM for the Funfest event on June 1-3???

I'll be going, probably in my '67 Westy and I'll be camping. How did the "new" location for the camping work out? Are there "facilities" (toilets, wash stations, etc.) convienent to the camping location. I wish they would add some facility for us to get in an occassional shower! If it is closer to the show area, allowing the campers to display "in position", that is a good improvement.

I'll also be bringing along Bob Van Heyst and Linda in another of my old VWs. Bob is the owner (and a super VW enthusiast!) of the BBT company in Belgium. We'll be caravaning over to Effingham from the St. Louis area on Friday morning.

Hope to see ya there...

Bill

Bill - camping was a big success last year! It was great seeing all the Buses and campers as soon as you enter the grounds to kick off the event. This year we will have the air conditioned porta potties available to all campers and attendees during show hours. Regular porta potties will be there for overnight.

We're really looking forward to drawing from the success of the camp area last year. Can't wait to see you - it's only 27 days away!

No showers and no campfires allowed correct? May camp and just visit this time. It's free if I come as a spectator right?

This will be my first time to funfest. I purchased space in the swap meet area. When can I show up to begin laying out my items? Do I need to bring any confirmation showing I purchased space in the swap meet area?[/list]

Hey Zacarious! The show opens at 8:00 am on Friday. You can start setting up any time after that. All you will need is to stop by Funfest Headquarters when you arrive, pickup your vehicle hang tag for the Swap Meet area, and you are set!

We're looking forward to this one! We are caravanning over to Effingham from the St. Louis area on Friday morning, we might be at the Funfest campus by noon or so. I'm bringing two old VWs and will be camping on site in one of them.

Is a sales permit needed for the swap meet area?

That's a great question Zacarious. No, no special permits are needed. Your Funfest registration with the swap meet vendor registration (which is sounds like you have already completed) is all you will need to participate in the swap area.

Hi all,

Just finishing up a brake refresh/rebuild on our original paint '55 Deluxe Sunroof Beetle, so after bleeding and adjusting, it should be "good to go" for our out-of-country visitors to drive/enjoy. Cold front moving thru now, sounds like a high temperature of 80 on Sat and 90 on Sunday, sunny to partly sunny skies all weekend! Wooo Hooo!

We should have a nice little caravan heading from the St. Louis area over to Effingham on Friday morning arriving around noon-1pm or so.

3-days until the largest gathering of VW's in the midwest...I can almost taste the BBQ pulled pork sammich from the chuck wagon tent and hear the ZZ Top tribute band.

Did not get my bus finished in time but my Thing T-181 is ready for the party.

See ya there.

Wow! Great event! Nice weather all weekend, actually a bit cold (in June?) on Friday evening (I'm NOT complaining!). A 30 minute rain storm Saturday evening. ZZ Top tribute band was great, lots of cars, tons of Buses camping! I loaned my '55 Sunroof Beetle to Bob & Linda Van Heyst from BBT in Belgium for the weekend, and I camped in my '67 Westy Campmobile. Event staff were very accomodating, the swap meet was a bit bigger than I remember in the past. Lots of cold beers were consumed. We had a safe driving journey both from and back to St. Louis, I hope everyone else did too. I saw WAY too many VW being "trailered/towed" for my tastes, DRIVE 'em you sissies! Otherwise your VWs are just metal sculptures...

Was a perfect weekend there, and a great time for it being our first Funfest. We got there late Thursday evening. Minor battery issue on way down, but new battery and all was well. We were 1 of only 4 Buses camping there Thursday night. Friday started fair weather but my afternoon weather cleared and people started rolling in. Watched a bit of the Tribute Band, wasn't impressed by them, so we enjoyed more time back at the "BusGround"! Lol Made many new friends, the most memorable ones being Bear from Florida, Bob from Kentucky, and Mike from Cali. All were our "neighbors" for the weekend and friends for life now. Good to see Bear win an award too. I can agree on the "too many trailers towing"! Wink After all they were made to drive and enjoy! We did have another issue on the way home with starter overheating about 50 miles from home. Just waited and troubleshot it,still didn't start, so push started it and off we went. Little Miss Sunshine moment and actually funny! Thanks to MAM for a awesome weekend. We'll see everyone next year or on down the road of life!
