Anybody have a 79 Westy and could take a picture of the upper bed decking under the cushion. Looking for what mounting hardware was use where for the headbanger cabinet. I have read the FAQ on the Westy cabinet install but it skips the portion I need.
If you look on previous page you will see I have pictures of the area in question. Thank you for any help _________________ Special Thanks to:

Thanks man. All I need is pictures of the hardware under the cushions of upper bedding that holds headbanger cabinet in place. I cannot figure out if there are 2 weird nuts on one side and two carriage bolts on the other of the headbanger cabinet holdi
It up to bottom of bed decking.
Anybody out there have a picture of this? Assembly starts soon. _________________ Special Thanks to:

Yep, you're right Bob. The time is getting closer, but I think it's up to you guys with real fine Bays. You've got to make it happen. It's just a matter of when Bays start getting integrated into the Air Cooled VW community. That's the crowd the magazine caters to.
For years here on the Samba I've been mentioning that in general, Bay owners are frequently loners and don't acknowledge or pursue much of a relationship with the rest of the VW AC community which is mainly made up of bugs and early split buses. To be frank about it many Bay owners are snobs compared to about all others in the VW world. It's seldom a bug driver won't wave or honk when I'm in my bus but it's common to get no acknowledgement from Bays when I'm either in my bug or bus.
At the various small local shows and gatherings it's the same situation and Bays pretty much ignore association with other VW's. However it seems like the situation is slowly changing.
At our larger shows, such as the Bug-O-Rama, there always have been a few Bays but in the last couple years there have been a lot more. Some decent ones but nothing spectacular. Nothing really magazine worthy as compared to other VW models and the normal trailer queens. An exception was a couple months ago when Keith (kmmcdonald) showed up in his beauty and took a couple awards. Bug and split folks took real notice of it. Times are changing
Back to the magazine- Hot VW's gets to the shows looking for feature worthy dubs of high quality and what draws interest from the spectators. Surely they would have noticed Keiths and hopefully more nice Bays start showing up (hey Bob ) They do respond to what they see at shows and a couple local friends have had their dubs featured. Joe and his Oval in Feb. and a good bud Howard in the current June issue. From the introductions at shows it was more contacts, interviews and finally HVW came over for photoshoots.
So you guys with great Bays, get them out there and show them off. Maybe it will hapen, times are changing. _________________ The best thing that anyone can do for their Bay is get the Volkswagen of America Official Service Manual published by Robert Bentley. Without it the bus is pretty much doomed.

Very good and fair statements Desert Bus Man.
Update on headbanger cabinet install: we'll no need for anyone to hunt down pictures of hardware needed as I found all the pieces an where they go. FYI the upper right side of headbanger cabinet use 2 carriage bolts to mount top of cabinet to upper decking/headliner. And 2 bolts to connect side to wardrobe cabinet. The FAQ on the cabinet removal jumps over this part. _________________ Special Thanks to:

What are you going to do about the white plastic strip that covers the green metal at the front of the upper bed? Were you able to find a nice straight one? _________________ 1976 Sage Green Westfalia Deluxe

Found an ok piece but it needs to be heated and stretched as the holes don't line up because of shrinkage. I may use same stuff to cover headliner to cover that piece. _________________ Special Thanks to:

What did you use to replace the original basket weave sticker material for the headliner? _________________ Formerly known in the forums as "OVALTEEN"

Gowesty basket weave. Difference is ita whiter in color. |
I read that their material has fabric on the back. Is that true? How did it effect putting the material on the wood backing? Did you use spray glue? Overall, are you happy with it?
I've been watching your build and went through every page now. Great work!!! _________________ Formerly known in the forums as "OVALTEEN"
