Hi all,

Completely new in barndoor country! Smile Looking at maybe buying barndoor shell. But... This will need a new chassis and so on. What would be suitable as a donor? I am guessing that a barndoor chassis will be quite different to a up untill 67 chassis...? Or would a late chassis be usable? The shell is 54. Failing that, does someone know a barndoor chassis for sale in europe? Smile

Thanks in advance!

Any pics of the 54 you are considering? As you guessed, the chassis are different. A barndoor ft axle mounts differently and the rear torsion housing is narrower for starters. Klassic Fab offers a complete repro chassis. There are some great build threads on here showing what's involved. Hopefully someone who's actually done one will chime in.

is the front beam support and tortion tube/ gearbox area still in the van or is it fully gutted?

if you can get those parts the center chassis is very easy to build

Funny, that doesn't look "very easy" to me.
Nice work on the build there.

once you have the measurments sorted, theres a fantastic set on the internet that mark with the kempes bus drew up the way i did it is lay your top hats and I beams out on the floor upside down in the corect spacing, then clamp the outriggers up, use an inner sill to keep them in line, then clamp the chassis rails on to and measure it all 5 million times and buzz them all together.

i might ad that getting the rear cradle on is a bit more tricky Very Happy
