Hey Anchovy if you are out there, can you answer this question? There is a hole and tube in the center divider of the bottom bin, much like the ones you posted from the catalog that had stools. If is is for a stool, I'd definitely be interested in picking up one of those seat tops if you have one left!
Thanks for sharing your Assistent obsession with everyone! I'm hooked. I can't wait to put some tools in this thang. Let me tell you, for working on all my old airheads out in the backyard, there is nothing better. |

This is my Assistant.
Should I make it like new, or is it cool to have it rusted ?

Help needed.
Anyone know where these go. Been cleaning up all the parts today to put back on my cart and cant remember where these came from. Definitly off the assistant because they are in the parts box i stripped it down into.
Just need to make up a locking bar now and rebuild it of course. _________________ Exeter Aircooled Founder Member

Those are not part of the cart. Those are feeler gauges. |

Here's a 166N of unknown vintage other than the wheels and folding pillars put it somewhere in the 90's I guess. The PO installed some rubber sheeting between the casters and the bottom on the front and between the rear crossmember and the bottom on the rear wheels. I don't know if this is some kind of primitive shock absorber or what. I'll take it off and see if there's any difference in the ride. You can sort of see a sliver of the rubber:
The top has a matte rough black finish on it I've not seen before. I'd like to touch up both that and the blue paint; anyone have any idea what to use? Thanks |

The circular rubber sheeting under the front casters was a factory thing on some carts, so is the rough matte black finish on the top. I think your cart is stock all the way around including the folding uprights but I have not seen rubber sheeting under the rear cross member. Nice cart. |

Check it out, put it back together after I got it out of the back of my friends G-Wagen.
(fresh from Germany as well)
I had to adjust the chains a bit. The bottom and middle tray were too close and out of whack. This should probably work. The trays flop around a bit, I think they might be missing a bushing or something.
The poles are straight but one of the poles threads are buggared up a bit. I'll take a file to the threads and clean them up or something.
There are multiple layers of paint but I can see original paint beneath it all. The front casters are probably not original. The rear tires appear to be continentals, I can see some of the crosshatch on the inside of the tire.
There are some small dings and surface rust. The ebay.de ad mentioned it did not close properly. The lips look like they need to be straightened out a bit.
I wonder if I can find the rubber trim, some good wheels, and maybe a new liner for the top tray. I'll post over on TheSamba, a lot of Hazet guys hang out there too..
Works perfectly!
What should I do, leave it as is, restore it, or clean it up(clean the poles, remove the paint from the wheels, clean the badge and thats it)?
The "A" in Hazet is lower case, so this must make it a pre '65? Cool??? I don't have a blue knob, missing the lock rod, and seat. But not bad for 69 Euros plus a little cash for getting it here... _________________ Recursion comes before Recursion. |

Howdy! All these fancy carts got me into mine again! LOL Just dug it out of the garage... and was thinking Id like to bring it into the house... (new place here, and the cart could be put to good use in my pad!)
I would like to get it restored though... Is there anyone on the boards here that does resto work? I know I could disassemble it here, and find a local shop to paint it etc but on Long Island even a cup of coffee is rediculously overpriced!
I assume its a mid 70's since it has the big A
Wouldnt even be too opposed to a trade for something newer if someone wanted an older model...
Any outlets would me appriciated!
FWIW... here's my cart back when I bought it in 09!

I bought some Easy Off (and gloves) and had some 000 steel wool. Tried it on an emblem and It works but I took off too much paint. I think I will go to Lowes later today and look for some less aggressive scotch brite pads and just do the rest of the tub.
Anyone know where I can find paint that matches the hazet colors? I can probably manage to repaint the logos.
I'm not looking for a perfect restoration job really since my cart is probably beat. A lot of the spot welds have failed and someone in the past bolted the parts to the tub. _________________ Recursion comes before Recursion. |

I don't know if this helps, but it's off the hazet.de site.

Hi, got one of thes for FREE today with a promise not to sell it. I started to read the first 10 pages of this tread but I´m still unsure of which model it is. Yes the blue knob is on the wrong side I know(now). Missing the locking pin or what its called. What is the RAL color code on this or should I just keep it as is? It has the continental wheels and early brake type. The rubar on top is a homemade handle welded on the top. Top plate is grey but painted at some point.
It smells of diesel oil and ocean.
I like it |

This interesting bulletin was posted up in the classifieds. The VW factory is giving its dealerships advice to buy and use Hazet Assistents in their shops for increased efficiency. The bulletin is dated March 1954.

That's interesting, especially the part about "would you kindly let us have a copy of your purchase orders."
Sounds like someone was getting a kickback on all the Hazets sold. I wonder if it was Volkswagenwerk GMBH or Müller and Böttcher working a little racket on the side.
