First place at a Cali show would be great, but to tell the truth I am pretty happy with my first place win locally. Although a pat on the back would have been fine. Taking the hole show was a dream. _________________ Special Thanks to:

Way to go! I hope to have a bus like yours someday too here in Phoenix. All my buddies scoff at the idea of a Bay. They say serious car guys only do Splitties lol.
BTW, wouldnt some high end wax protect your Bus on the road? What are you using. Ive never seen the results of religious waxing on a car before. |

Thank you for your kind words. Would also like to thank all those on thesamba who helped me along the way with there wisdom, knowledge and patience. Thanks go out to Sgkent, Westfabulious, Hoody, Busdaddy, Chris at Bustedbus.com, Ron at busdepot.com, Len Hoffman HAM inc., and manyore I sure I forgot.
As for wax I'm using a good polishing compound done by hand and then good old fashioned Mcguires carnauba wax all natural. Does great job. _________________ Special Thanks to:

Hey! Congrats Matt on your win. I have won a Best in Class, but never a Best in Show as well. Good for you. There will be many more. Nice work as always.
And....great work on the Hot VW's feature article. They published a 2" picture of my bus last year. Once I got a magnifying glass, I was able to show it to friends and family. You are the king of shwing brother.
Well deserved. _________________ *****************

Thank you Dan. Best In class is in my eyes is the better win anyhow as that vote is by all who enter where as the best in show is by the judges. Winning them both was a treat though.
As for the Hot VW mag thing I will be surprised if there is anything more than a tiny picture as well, although the photographer took a bunch of photos of bus and me and wife with trophy so who knows. _________________ Special Thanks to:

really leaning towards doing a Splitty for my next project. Although I am afraid of the learning curve. I still have so much to learn with these bays I doubt I will attempt it just yet.

Matt,
Nice job on the best in show / class trophies. It was a pleasure seeing your bus and getting to meet you in person.

Thank you Dan. Was nice meeting you finally as well. Now we will have to plan a day or two to get your tent installed. let me know if you want my contact for new tack strip plastic. The OG stuff is outta Denmark or somewhere like that. Way better than what others sell. I have the cheap crap roll that gowesty sells but did not use it as it looks flimsy. _________________ Special Thanks to:

Almost forgot. My mechanic Mark with Wolfsburg Autowerks entered his 67 Beetle in the VWOTG car show and he won best in his class. Here is picture of my wife Erica who got the pleasure of driving it down that day.
Mark and I after winning best in our class.
I know this post is not about my restoration but is connected with the day of fun we had with the bus.
Restoration update: Almost all my electrical is done. Only the hazzard flasher to fix. It was in pieces when i found it, so i put it back together and put a zip tie on it. Well the light in the knob works when i pull it out but no hazzard lights flashing. Huh. must hit the search button on this one. on a plus I fix the interior dome light and the rear sink light. Next addition will probably be the paper towel holder that mounts over the sink. Curious does anyone no if this item was dealer installed? sorry i have not searched for this info yet. _________________ Special Thanks to:

Thank you sir.
Well going to take a close look at things this weekend. Will be doing what ever it takes though. THe sound is non exsistant at idle no matter how long it sits untill i take it out for a drive. Im just guessing here but i think maybe just maybe its an oil galley plug that was replaced is hitting the flywheel. Just my guess. Gonna pull engine to find out.. yippie skippie. _________________ Special Thanks to:

Just read the entire thread over lunch. I think you have done a fantastic job on your Westfalia. Many would have seen your beginning point as an ending point. Wont you be afraid to actually use it? Also, what did you (or are you) using in lieu of the original green carpeting?
I think your bus sets the benchmark for restorations my friend. Well done. |

Thank you for your kind words.
Yes will plan to use it. Had a camping trip planned this weekend but still have few bugs to work out first.
The carpet is considered NOS bought from Germany. Keifter Kloftien or something. There should be a link or nod to them on my threa somewhere. Carpet is pricey but looks great. _________________ Special Thanks to:
