Consider this the BEFORE picture. As soon as Wagens West ships my spindles (should be any day now), I'll be happy to share the AFTER pics.

Do you have gas shocks in the front? They can pick the front of an unloaded bus up quite a bit. Raising the rear an inch would make things look a bit more level as well.

Let us know how your dropped spindles work. I have wondered how they affect handling in the wind and other adverse situations.

If you can read what is written on them it might say. Also when you try to take them off they will try to elongate.

My guess is that you have gas shocks pushing your front up. Don't waste you money on drop spindles unless you are lowering the bus.

I just went outside to have a look... I wiped them down to the best of my ability and don't see any type or stickers or anything, so that's not helping.

I jumped on my bumper a bit.... they make a hissing sound when compressing and even more so when rebounding. Is that any indication?

Regardless... I DO want to lower it a little bit with the spindles (keep stock ride). And the spindles are already paid for. I'm just waiting for the FedEx man to bring them.

Cool. I would search the forums too. Lots of info about this "issue".

A friend of mine has a slammed '71. I have a stock height '72. He had to drive me home one night and my drink flew into the air over a bad bump. Well i had to drive him home a few weeks later. I flew over the R/R tracks near his house as he was freaking. His bus could not do that. Lowered/slammed looks cool. Practical? Not. BTW, avatar? My nether regions are pumped better than that and not in my avatar. (geez where's my gym towel?)

FreedomBuild and Kirk -- yeah, I were either of you I'd certainly feel the same way. Laughing

But if you're that preoccupied with avatars (and if you are, it IS ok), starting a thread in the "Off Topic" section would be far more appropriate. That topic really does not fit on vehicle specific sections of a forum.

Better to get back to bay windows!

Pretty much sums it up. I love the look of lowered busses and I'm still on the fence about doing dropped spindles on mine but, I love not having to worry about bumps and such. The clearance and ride on a stock bus is awesome. For the time I'm keeping it stock Cool

You shouldn't have to fix this with special spindles. If something is off with your suspension, just fix it. The gas shocks idea is a good place to start. Send the dropped spindles back or sell them to someone else, and get some proper shocks on there. You ride will improve, too.

Do you really think a couple of gas shocks could actually lift up a Bus? I don`t know why people continue to believe this. Shocks have NOTHING to do with the height of any vehicle.

You ever try to see how high you can raise the front of your unloaded bus just curling your arms? To raise it a couple of inches takes about the same amount of force as it takes to compress a gas shock absorber.

if you really believe that then find any car with gas shocks. Unbolt them and see if it makes a difference.

Last time I checked a VW with dual front torsion bars was kind of unique in the automotive world. I know when I bought gas shocks for my first Thing 30 years ago the front end lifted a good 1 - 1 1/2" over what the stock height had been.

IN contrast, if I were to put gas shocks on my old Toyota Land Cruiser, it would probably make no discernible difference in height, but I can barely detect any movement when I bounce on the bumpers. Different cars different results.
