|
|
I would like to use the Battery Cover that was on my 6 Volt 62 Single Cab. I have gone to 12 Volts. Does anyone know of a 12 Volt Battery that is the same size as the Original 6 Volt? Second Question: The battery cover is metal and has two small "tabs" in the top. One post I read said that the covers were lined but I don't recall what was used. Can anyone verify this and identify what you are using today?
Thanks |

I have never heard of a 12 volt substitute but it may exist. As far as battery covers there is actually a 12 cover not as common and not exactly rare but it is out there. The two little triangular tabs hold a press board material in place. It acts as an insulator. _________________ Roads Scholar & distributor restorations

Here is my set-up. '66 bus, now 12volt, but looks like a 6volt.

Some slight modification required on the battery cover mousehole but I know you can do it. _________________ '67 Beetle

WalMart carries a 12 V battery that is the exact same size in length and width of the late model 6V battery. It is slightly taller, but not much. I have had them in 3 or 4 busses running the standard metal VW battery top plate with the standard VW tie-down strap. The strap takes some adjustment due to the increased height, but not much. The positive and negative cable cutouts on the cap also work with this battery.
Can't remember the model # of the battery and can't find it right now on the one bus battery that is handy, but if you take the measurements and the cap down to your local WalMart you should be able to find it.
And yes you need the hardboard liner in the top of that lid for insulation from the battery posts. |
