|
|
Hello all,
Could somebody help with a couple of measurements? Unfortunately my car is in storage, otherwise I'd check myself.
Trying to figure out how wide the tunnel is, say at the shifter box. Top and bottom if possible.
Thanks in advance! |

How about just full pan dimensions? I have the Bug pan dimensions image, but it doesn't show tunnel width.
Thank you! |

My pans are out right now so it should be easy to get those measurements when I get home this evening. I'll try to get them and post tonight. _________________ JohnD

The following measurements are at the widest point between the gear shift and the parking brake where the top of the tunnel is squared off.
Base: 5 5/8"
Top: 4"
Height: 6"
Hope this helps. _________________ JohnD

That's exactly what I needed to know, thank you very much!
2 1.5" water lines should fit perfectly down the tunnel span.
And taking 3" off the top up front should give me plenty of room for feet and pedals.
Appreciate the quick help! |

Water lines? Are you converting to.....dare I say it? A water-cooled engine?
Or are you just installing a privy? _________________ JohnD

Check out his gallery! Here's a teaser: http://images.thesamba.com/vw/gallery/pix/833776.jpg
It's not for everybody, but you've got to admire the engineering behind this type of conversion. I bet it's a blast to drive!!! |

Yep, it's not for everyone, but went water cooled. I rolled the car about 7 years back and decided to go for the full build. I've had the car for 17 years, this is version 4 or so at this point.
I'm building a box tube pan replacement, replacing the body lift with .120 wall 1x3 and running 2x3 crossmembers. The water lines will pass through what's left of the tunnel, and the tunnel will be all that is left of the "pan."
And it should be a blast- 2.0L supercharged Ecotec, bigger injectors, smaller pulley, etc. Hoping to be 250+ to the wheels.
The engineering part is the only thing keeping me entertained these days, I'm in China for work and trying to do as much design work now as possible. Next time I come home I'll dig the car out of the trailer and have a sanity saving build session.
Thanks again! |
