|
|
I'm new to the air cooled VW scene. I recently purchased a 71 std beetle that needs reassembled. I bought my beetle on eBay as a project to get started into my new hobby. The bug is in pretty good shape, needs new headliner carpet and heater channels. One of the pervious owner completely disassembled it with the intentions of doing a ground up restoration. Long story short the the bugs 80 % reassembled. I purchased the 80% reassembled bug with a few boxes of misc parts.
My question is this. Does anyone know of a manuel or resource I could purchase or down load to show exactly how to reassbe these parts into a complete bug. I saw a wiring diagram on this site which is exactly what I'm looking for. I need to reassbmle the horn, fuel lines and gas tank, brake lines and glove compartment.
Any help would be great! |

You need to buy the Bentley manual. It is very good. It costs about $80 or so, less used but it is the one resource you must have. The manual is orange in color and covers '70-79 beetles, supers, and ghias. Search on here or go to Bentley publishing. Enjoy your beetle. _________________ "Thanks to you I'm much obliged, such a pleasant stay" RP

Definitely the Bentley.
Also look here for the exploded diagrams for the different subsystems. Primarily for the Super Beetle, but many parts are the same. Only the front suspension differs.

I was surprised at getting the hard cover for 35 bucks from Jbugs!
I highly recommend the Bentley manual. I am an automotive technician by trade and I did not like the Haynes manual nor the "How to keep your VW alive"(though the latter was more of a read than a manual, it has its place)! The Bentley was far better in my opinion. |

For the heater channel replacement, get the "Bug Me Video" Volume #7. bugmevideo.com _________________ shakers73

Get familiar with the "search" feature on this site. It's the most useful resource out there. There's probably nothing you'll encounter that hasn't been discussed a few times here. The Bentley manual is gold too, as everyone else had attested to. _________________ -----------------------
