Post the Mcode, is she a Westy?
Looks like you have a lot to work with including correct bumpers and with your metal working skills your set. Congratulations.

Yup, it's a '66.

Sure, it needs a LOT of TLC, but for the price, almost a giveaway. Wow, and found in the islands, no less.
You need to take it slow--careful disassembly and a full resto.
Or, you can sell just the icebox and make your investment back, and part the rest out, or sell the Westy interior and camper windows and make it
a just-for-fun rat rod for cruising the island with just your board in back.
Incredible score!!

What is the mcode? Is it a 66? In the process of getting rid of the scorpions and making it turn into my carport. Took some more pics and will post tonight. Pics will be in gallery unless I can figure out how to post them to this thread.
Thanks for your replys to this thread. I have nobody else here that cares about this kind of stuff. Except my wife. Thank God!

I still cant figure out how to post the pics to forum. They are in the gallery under camper on maui. I will get it eventually.
Keep the info coming my way please! I will post the progress on a regular basis.
Can't get the front doors open yet because the mech is not responding to the interior or exterior door handles. If I remember correctly, there was a spring or there was a lot of play to prevent damage between the handles and the latch. I think the latches are just sticking. Keys work, handles work? Any ideas?
Thanks again.

That's a heck of a score for $500. Looks like a so-42 Westfalia hardtop camper. The icing on the cake would be to find the childs cot, and even the side tent. Time to clean that thing out!

Instead of pealing the rest of that wood off, get some wood glue and glue it back up.

Very Happy Aloha,
My name is Gary and I have owned many buses including a 66 21 rag, square, fastbacks, and a bug or 4. It has been many years since I have owned anything VW. I get the bug heavy about once a year around christmas. I had it again this year. Well here is the reason I joined Samba.
I live on Maui in the state of Hawaii. The VW scene here is pretty good but, the problem is there are not that many finds left. If you want a cool car it is gonna cost ya. Then some. You can add $2000 dollars on top of any barn find just to ship it here from California.
Here is where I will try to get to the point!
Nine plus years ago I spotted a 1966 or? camper on the side of a residential street. Original, untouched, under a tree, blocked in by concrete blocks and bushes. I stopped and talked with a guy in the driveway. He was not happy to see me. I was not the first guy to ask about the bus? Really? I understood the situation before I walked into it but, I had to try.
Two days ago. Nine years later. I decided that I was going to drive by the house again. It was probably my 50th time going out of my way to pass by this very busy place.

Out of curiosity, what was your motivation for starting the thread? Did you recently have an experience that got you thinking about this?

Just another schlub trying to make a quick buck. Or a lot of bucks. I'd love to hear the reasoning behind the firmness of the price. It's not like he put a lot into the bus, other than driving by the house. I'm sure the dude he sold it to would be pissed if he knew he was just going to flip it.

it doesn't matter what he's asking for it, he has every right to ask whatever he feels like asking, he invested time and effort chasing this bus, I actually applaud the fact that he wants to sell it forward instead of keeping it and not being able to put it on the road, no one really knows the reasons behind his desicion to sell it, and quite honestly what he's asking for, is not a lot of money, specially in that part of the world.

Very good points. He probably underpaid for it in the first place. I can't complain - that's more than what I paid for my DC.
