Thanks in advance. I just put in a new master cylinder and brake lines. I got the lines bled and peddle pressure is good. But I still have one leak. It's the line that goes from the master cylinder to the right front wheel. Its leaking at the master cylinder. I can't tighten it anymore because the nut is all the way in. Its hitting the m/c. Was the hole drilled too deep? Can I get a line with a longer nut? Its a 67 type 1. Im leaving it full length.

Either the hole is too deep or the threaded portion of the nut is shorter than normal. Did you get a German master cylinder? Are the brake lines specifically for a VW or did you get them at the local auto parts store?

Usually there is a longer fitting at one end of of a new brake line. The longer fitting should be used at the master cylinder. Make sure you did not use the longer fitting at the flexable brake line at the right front wheel.

Do your lines have double flares or the proper bubble flares.

Thanks guys. The lines came from cip1 as far as I remember with the correct bubble flair, but the m/c is not German. As far as one end having longer threads, thus me putting it on backwards, I'll have to take it apart to see.

Both ends are same length. I figure if I can find a longer nut then I can replace the short one and reflare the end after putting it on. Any ideas where I can get one?

Any parts store should have them. Make sure you use the proper flare or just get a bubble to bubble adapter. They are usually longer. I have ten VWs on the road and all have the short stock VW fittings. No problems. I make my own lines and reuse the original fittings.

i have had a lot of issues with new brake line flares being ghetto and not sealing.

the only lines i purchase are wolfsburg west because they have really nice factory flares and they are coated in some green teflon stuff to prevent rust.

Your local NAPA will also carry a wide spectrum of sizes.

Might check to make sure the MC isn't cracked where that line threads in also.

Thanks Jeff. Been meaning to shoot ya an email. I would hope NAPA does. Seems like advance and autozone never have what you need.

Yeah, good idea. I hadn't thought of that. Thanks.

Thanks to all of you for your responses. I went to napa and picked up a new section of brake line tubing. The bubble flair was bigger than what was on the piece I already had. This gave me an extra 1/8 inch. I only needed to be able to tighten the nut another 1/16", so I still have some thread showing. Now there are no leaks 'fingers crossed' Shocked and I have brakes. Thanks again. This is my first build. I am a newbie. Thanks to jspbtown. I'll have pics up soon.
