Are the rear seat, seat back brackets installed reverse from normal? Shouldn't the seat side of the bracket have the 2 holes, and the other side a single hole?
(Minor detail eclipsed by so many others.)
I wonder if the buyer is stoked, suffering buyers remorse, or just so completely oblivious to anything but conspicuous wealth and his/her 10 minutes in the BJ limelight that he/she doesn't care. |
why, you are correct.
Here is an low milage, original 65 standard, I took pics of it for reference.
Check out the
grab handles on middle seat, (would be chrome ends for a 63)
metal rib on rear seat top,
the hardware for the rear seat bracket,
the hardboard luggage panel above engine,
and the vinyl upholstered fuel filler bump:
This looks like an original '64 w/t standard:

'Should be' is usually a reflection of 'what was'. These seats were selling for less, but right now it looks like a seller market of 1.
There's no way that seat is only worth $500. It's got to be at least middle seat pricing ($1000-$1500ish). And they are more 'rare' (but maybe not in demand).
cdennisg; If you live in an area where middle seats go for $500, GRAB them I would take any middle seat in the $500-$1000 range. _________________ 57 PGSG 'Carpet Bus'

That seat is essentially a frame for being reupholstered. A $1500 seat should be usable as-is. "Should be" means what is a reasonable asking price.
There was a very similar seat at a nearby show last fall for $800. It did not sell as I recall. Is a late 2/3 middle seat frame, missing the ash tray, grab bar ends, and in full need of restoration really worth $1000 or more? _________________

I wouldn't go b y show prices, there is a very limited market there. Walkthru middles are a biznitch to find. I think he is asking too much, but should get over $1,000 from the right buyer, that is someone likely with a 21 window who wants a correct seat in their walkthru. As evidence of the of the difficulty and expense of finding one of these seats look at how many "restored" buses have cheap fat chick short middles in them. _________________ Go Reds! Smash state!

I bought a much nicer original upholstery '65 2/3 seat at the vintage meet last summer for $500. sold it five minutes later for $700 to a friend who needed it for his bus which was parked two buses behind mine.
internet prices are crazy. get out in the real world and find out what stuff is really worth. this stuff is not rare, nor is it all that hard to find. _________________ .

Yes, I believe that seat might sell if it was priced at 1/2 of the current price.
I'm not saying that is not overpriced too but there are buyers out there in that price range. _________________ How to: Post Photos | Search

nearly all ISP's give users dynamic IP addresses by default. So all the person would need to do is unplug their modem, plug it back in... *poof* ban gone. _________________ 71 Squareback

How can you tell from the pictures that it is a filled monster?
I personally don't like the later year VW symbol and the 2 litre alloys, but that is just me. _________________ "When I die, I want to die like my grandfather who died peacefully in his sleep. Not screaming like all the passengers in his car." |
