I have always thought these wheels looked good. I also like the fact that they are out of production and not that common. i saw a set or two pop up lately but they were always a little on the rough side or needed a lot of prep work and the price was too high IMO.
I was browsing CL the other day and came across these about 5 miles from my house. They have some very minor blemishes most of which could be polished out and they have already been cleaned and painted by the PO. All that is missing is one center cap.
I want to strip the paint and run the full natural finish on them. Any ideas of the best way to go about it?

| ^ you could mask the polished parts and use Jasco, or something similar to strip the black. I have used stripper on polished wheels without any discoloring etc. but would advise others to take the precaution. |

I've got 3 of the ones like yours I'm willing to trade for a set of 4 stock bus 15s if anyone's interested. They're in decent shape. A little curb rash. I started cleaning 2 up but lost interest because I don't have a fourth |

Anyone know why they made two types of these wheels ?
I have had 6 of these and kept 5 as i wanted one as a spare but I tried the spare on the beetle the other day as my tyre was looking a bit bald and it wouldn't fit ... looking at it from the inside it's curved in the centre like the pic above of coxicofans .... Now when i had them on the bus they fitted ok...
Can anyone enlighten me on why they made different styles ?
Hey guys it looks like i've got the missing wheel you need ?
I'd swap it for a flat one but i'm in the UK
i'll try n post some pics up
I thought i had four of this type
I have one of this type that won't fit on the beetle
pic of both
And for the record the one i sold was different too if i recall the outer triangular segments met at the centre but didn't have the lip if that makes sense ?

Took the other front wheel off today to replace the front brakes and found out another wheel is different to the other two !!!!
How many types were there ? Anyone know ?
Got your message by the way Coxicokid but now i'm baffled.... I better check the rears when i get chance
i'll try and post a pic up later ..... all look identical from the outside but on the inner rim this one i took off today is the same as the one above ( not the flat type centre but the same as the type coxicokid has ) but this one fits ???
Upon further inspection the stepdown level on the inside of the rim is deeper than the spare which is only a cm or so
Can anyone shed any light on the mystery of these AEW's ?
It's the stepdown here as i have badly pointed out lol ...... that's different

Thanks Mike for stating the obvious lol i have already tried that route seeing as though this is a thread on the wheels prob got more chance of finding a set here
This is the one i took off today that still fits as the edge as pointed out on the above pic is deeper than the spare
If you look carefully the centre is a different cast too ( oh and ignore the greasecap in the centre as it got stuck on my homemade caps lol )

With all these different varients showing up, I got curious and unpacked mine to check and they are all the same, like the one pictured above. My guess is that the different thickness in the mounting flange was to change the offset for different applications? _________________ Mr. Pibb + Red Vines = Crazy Delicious |

Cheers Jonny yes it does seem that way , just wondering how many types they actually cast ??? be good if we had some kind of reference to go off and maybe help each other get a full set of the same rims ? instead of an oddball set like mine lol
The spare i have fitted my 60 bus but no way will it fit my 65 beetle due to the mounting flange being so shallow |
