Anybody have any experience dealing with your local state controllers office?
Here's a link for Ca. http://www.sco.ca.gov/upd.html
I have heard of many claims but have yet to hear of anyone I know actually getting their money back.
Any tricks?
If you've never heard of this, check out your name and anybody you know.
Grandma, Grandpa ect.
You can search by SS numbers also _________________ No matter what you do, it will always be a Hippie Bus.

I received a letter from a "recovery" company announcing that I had unclaimed money. Their recovery fee was a little north of 30%. All I did was contact the state agency that post public notices of these funds (typically once a year). All I had to do was produce evidence that I was the person and, voila! I got the check. It was a deposit from a cell phone I totally forgot about. I was glad to have received the letter from the recovery company because it alerted me to look into it myself. Since I am a records horder, I was able to easily produce evidence that I had the account.
Why give away 30 to 40% of YOUR money when you can easily do it yourself _________________ Wanted:

Or even easier, go here http://www.missingmoney.com/ and type in your name and location. If your name shows, click the link(s) that will bring you to your states' treasury website. From there you can print out the paperwork to file for your claim. A friend of mine had done it last year and searched again this year and found I had some money in the state coffers (he's like that that way..). Just sent my paperwork out today - for all the cost of a stamp. We'll see! _________________ www.nationalsterling.org

Several months after my mother passed away a relative still living in her home state called and said her name was listed in the newspaper in the unclaimed property list. I called the 800 number and was told it was dividend from a life insurance company. They mailed me some paperwork to fill out and have notarized and send back with a copy of her death certificate. 6 months later I got a check from the state. It did not cost me anything. _________________ 2010 Sportsman ET Champion - Mid-America Dragway - Arkansas City, KS

I did that a couple of years ago and found some money in Louisiana. I left there in 1989. Turns out I had an overpayment to the hospital in Baton Rouge. I just had to prove that I was there at that time. It was only $71, but that's better than nothing. _________________ Brain Trust member #13

Searching Google for missing money or lost money get's you to where you need to go.
Cali has me listed for a small amount from bank interest 42 years ago. I downloaded the forms but couldn't go any further. I could not figure out how to prove any of the info they required. About the only thing would be a photo of my cars and boat sitting in the driveway and I think the street number shows. But Cali isn't about to go find the house and confirm it's the same one. No, I no longer have my rent receipts, utility bills, drivers license, bank statements or whatever.
While looking I also see my son and my brother have small amounts there for the getting.
A few years ago I saw my long gone grandfather had a bunch of insurance dividend checks. Probably a big amount. It's not listed now. I'm sure my long lost estranged brother grabbed it. I didn't even try because he was in all the wills and I wasn't. _________________ The best thing that anyone can do for their Bay is get the Volkswagen of America Official Service Manual published by Robert Bentley. Basic rule of thumb chez Tram is this:
If nobody else has a claim on my money, it just cannot possibly be mine.
I never actually have money. I'm simply a money conduit. _________________ Give A Pal a Hand!

to the original poster, thanks for the reminder, I haven't checked in a while
found a couple bucks for me, but a couple hundred each for some relatives that could sure use it.
don't forget to check your relatives maiden names, seach with just the first couple letters of the first name, etc. There are a couple out there for my deceased uncle under joeseph instead of joseph, joe, j etc but the correct address.
again, thanks! |

I'd better get on it, I've got money from 6 different places waiting for me.
I checked my wife, and she also had 6 different places that owed her.
Between the 2 of us, we'll get about $255
Not bad for a few minutes work. _________________

Thanks. Found $40.81 for my wife and all it will cost is a stamp to mail back the required documents.
FYI. I did notice that Texas charges 1.5% for amounts over $100. Other states may vary. _________________ Fusillade |

Good find! There is $50 with my name on it addressed to an old employer. They've gone out of business now, but I should just be able to show a pay stub & it's mine! Thanks for posting this topic, if we meet at a show sometime, I'll pay for your expensive vendor food or warm beer. |
