And it's a sand rail so how do I wire the voltage reg not a vw wiring diagram

Generator D+ to regulator D+
Generator DF to regulator DF
Regulator B+ to Batter and to starter
Regulator terminal 61 to idiot light

on my new regulator there is a mark for d+ the terminal that is a double with bigger connecters goes the batterey?

Better look at it again, the large (.250) connectors should say B+ and yes they do go to battery possible to fuse panel...
