I met my goal (that I started 2 years ago) of driving my T-34 to the type 3 Invasion out in Colorado Springs Colorado.
...That was 3000+ miles in a little over a week. Not too bad for a 48 year old car, that hadn't seen the road since 1968 (other than trying to make it to the MI Vintage festival).
Congrats Bob, quite an achievement. Any pictures?
Yes, it was quite an achievement.
Yes. They're in my gallery, as I just got them loaded up today. Still trying to figure out which threads to post them into. At least we got to see some of our old friends like Dave and Ann Hall from the UK, along with meeting some new friends from the Colorado area, and points west. We had 30 T-3s (4 of which were T-34 Ghias) show up, along with at least 60 people attend. Plus we were able to give the local Ronald McDonald House charity $1229, which made it all that more special. It was a good vacation (holiday to you UK folks), and a nice way to see the country (from the drivers seat of a T-34 Ghia). I just wish it hadn't been so hot and windy, as the car really didn't care for the wind, or us for the heat. _________________ Bob 65 Notch S with Sunroof

I removed the oil pressure switch to go and get a adapter for my oil pressure gauge sender. Set myself a reminder not to start the engine,...... 30 minutes later I completely forgot and started the car, oil gushing everywhere
Idiot of the month award, I no longer have a nice detailed engine

Feel bad for your beautiful engine, but don't feel bad about yourself; we all forget stuff

I had my right side window scraper trim come off last night. Our handicapped son was playing with it since it was a little loose (only had 2 clips out of five), and it fell off at the gas station. So this morning I tried to find more clips and could not, and I made a couple out of paper clips which actually worked better than the fatigued originals. This afternoon I decided to go for a drive in the near 100 degree heat and the Ghia seemed to like it, even if it was a bit much for me. Went for some spirited driving (getting a little rubber on the 1-2 shifts), stopped by three stores, got some fuel, and went through a major construction zone before deciding I that I'd had enough. It apparently was not too much for the car though: Engine case temperature was 174, oil filter 162, oil sump 144 degrees F.

Got it painted today. I'm on my days off from work and wont see it until Saturday. I went with a 2011 Nissan color called graphite blue. I'm not going stock,so this blue/gunmetal will look good with chrome Porsche alloys (fake one$$$$)and either a beige or gray interior. Nothing too wild. _________________ 67 Ghia coupe

My friend John (of John's aircooled auto) came down from MA. He not only helped me install an 034, he took 3 apart and built me a good one. It's like a new car. I runs better at idle, drives better, even sounds better. Couldn't be happier and can't thank him enough. _________________ My 71 Ghia Been in my family since 1980

I think about the only thing better than John building your carb, is John building your carb AND being a friend!

I hauled my 61 Ghia out of the back yard where I parked it in 2005 or 2006. Aired up two tires, took the carb apart and cleaned it out, set up a one gallon temporary gas tank and drove off with no brakes except emergency!

Earlier this month I had to find a new place to live and I managed to find a place with a garage. Last week I finally brought my Ghia "home" for the first time.

You are correct. Even more so then you think. I can build a carb. He built an 034 distributor. So I got a distributor, and new VW knowledge. It's always fun working on cars with him. We joke around like 7th graders, but I always learn. He also helped me reindex the distributor timing gear. He said he wasnt any good at getting them out. So I, very proud of myself, pulled it right out, and promptly got it stuck reinstalling it, only to have him have to rescue me and fish it out. _________________ My 71 Ghia Been in my family since 1980

A 44 year old interior has been restored and today, we finish installing the quarter windows on my 69 coupe and complete the reinstallation of seat belts, rear dash trim and misc other pieces from the interior restoration. Check out the car, and then begin detailing in preparation for the 14th Vintage VW Treffen of the West Coast from Portland Or. down to Ventura, Ca.
