Are you looking for a chrome (shiny mirror surface) plating, or some other color like gold, etc? Also, what is the largest piece? The places that are left that still do it will want to know that as the size of their equipment is usually the limiter as to what they can fit.
Sounds like a nice upgrade! _________________ Two fully locked 80 Series LandCruisers. 2013 Subaru Impreza boxer. 1990 Audi 90 Quattro 20V |

Hi Doug!
oh,you know, the angle bracket on the bottom of the sliding door is probably the biggest one.
I'd like the cabin gear shifter as well.
All the latches and all the bolts from control arms, shocks, doors etc...
Nothing huge.
I'd like it like the yellow color of the latches in the vanagon,in french it's call "bichromaté".
It's not chrome, like the bumpers, mostly zinc or cadmium maybe?I'm not sure, maybe you know the name better than I do

Moved from the Vanagon forum to the General forum since non-vanagon people probably know of many good companies that do plating. _________________ Glenn

Here's a GREAT alternative if you can't find a plater:

This stuff is awesome. It takes a little experimentation to get just the right amount of gold in it, but I think this is the look you want, right? _________________ Give A Pal a Hand!

<<I contacted Gatto,they don't want to do it,only commercial stuff>>
You talked to George Gatto, or one of his sales people?
If you told him I told you to contact him, I'll bet he'd do it.
But--& this is my fault, I forgot to look at where your at--
The shipping would kill you, from Kummon I want to Lai you to the Windy City.
There must be somebody in Cal, Wa. or Or. that does rack or drum zinc, zinc chromate, or zinc nickel.
If you can't locate anyone send me the stuff--I'll dump it on George's desk and tell him to get it done--& I'll be back--.
Good guy & lifetime friend--he'll do it for me. _________________ T.K.

Hi Terry!
you bet correctly, they wouldn't let me talk to Georges,so I sent them an email after the phone call, and they told me they wouldn't do it after that.Dead end.
I don't mind shipping costs, same to Ca than IL from Hawai'i,these USPS flate rate boxes take up to 70Lbs I think, not a big deal
Does Mr Gatto have a strong desk? I got about 22 Lbs of bolts and miscellaneous things (shifter bushing plates, sliding door brackets...) plus 2 Westfalia roof hinges (10 Lbs)
Let me know if that's still doable.
I'll sent you some local alcohol as well

I've known G.Gatto since 68.
We lived together with 3 other crazy men.
We had 23 motorcyles in the garage, ice racing bikes, Enduro Bikes,Flat Tracking bikes, street bikes, and we were all loaded up on Buckweiser most of the time.
I worked for him in the winter driving his trucks when my semi that hauled gravel was parked for off season , hauled plated & unplated parts--back in the early 70's
He told me to go buy him some Mack trucks--I found 9 of them for him, bought them, painted them the crazy Orange , red, white & black paint scheme's for him.
I help him move his 76 ft.Chis Craft from the Cal Sag canal to Racine Wisconsin harbor every year.
Do I know him?
Yea--a little.
Will he do it for me?
I'm sure I wouldn't have any problem, depending if it's a straight run of the same process--drop the parts in a barrel line and run it in zinc.
Might cost me lunch ( I'd do that anyway--a common courtesy & good excuse to BS about stuff, as long as I'm killing the day running down to Boo- Boo land to drop the stuff off.)
And his place is in a real bad neighborhood.
Hey Baby--you want a date?
See what you come up with close just for the hell of it & I'll talk to him and see what 32 lbs of "stuff" will cost me.
It won't break the bank--but the shipping might.
You want straight zinc--right?
Keep in touch. _________________ T.K.

Aloha Terry!
Wow! Seems like somebody that you know well indeed
I'd like that kind of yellow zinc that'd on the bolts from factory,or if they do Nickel-Zinc which is far better,I'll take it...
| Quote: | | See what you come up with close just for the hell of it |
This,I don't understand, sorry, english is my second language after all
Is it what I expect to pay? Well,I have no idea,I'm sure it ain't cheap,so let's say 200 bucks? But I'm open to quotes
Do the bolts and parts have to be clean of grease or they dip that into a giant rust and grease cleaner?
Maybe we should continue in Pm
Have a good day ! _________________ Subaru EJ22+UN1 5 speed transmission

Funny Thing--I talked to G.Gatto today.
All's he said was to have the stuff clean--no paint on it.
He'll acid tank the parts squeaky clean & barrel line zinc chromate or zinc them for you.
I didn't even bring up the nickel zinc, because I didn't think you would want that kind of expense.
Price nickel once.
You'll see where I'm going with this.
PM me if you'd like.
Here's an interesting item.
He's bulding the biggest hoist lines in the counrty.
He'll be able to drop huge stuff into these swimming pool sized tanks & plate them.
Vanagons---
I'm taking a ride down to his shop tomorrow---
I knew he was up to something in this new building he had built--
I gotta see this new stuff. _________________ T.K.
