Can anyone recommend a good electric sander? Something that will conform well the the curves of the beetle body.

nothing fits the vw curves as good as the human hand...

the best electric sander is the 'random orbital' 5" with velcro pad to attach the sanding discs. they come in a 5 hole design or an 8 hole, for the discs.

you cand find them at Sears or Home Depot etc. for around $50 - $60..
remember if you get it at sears they will reolace it if/when it burns out. i just traded in one that did that. Porter Cable brand, no receipt either.

go with air tools if at all possible. if you have to use electric, make sure the sander is a variable speed.

I bought a champion at sears last year. I bought a 2 year warranty on it. I paid $19.96 for the sander and $3.40 for the warranty. I have replaced it 3 times and gotten a new sander. Cant beat it. I use it alot and it was only a $20 investment..

i tried the elec DA without the variable speed . it was a real pain.way too fast for all but the broad surfaces... make real sure you get the variable speed.
