I took mine out to a party down the street with my kinda 2nd family. Last night was about 15 degrees cooler than it's been in the last few months, so even with the brakes acting up, I just had to get it out since it's just a couple blocks
So, I really need to do the brakes. I've been down this road before with my notch, and it wasn't easy, so I have questions
I'm trying to buy everything local
Front wheel cylinders I'm good, Master Cyl I know what to do . Napa has german rear wheel cylinders, I already have shoes for the whole car
Rear rubber lines I'm sure are the same as 66-68 Type3 correct? What about the fronts? What rubber lines do I use for my 64? For my notch, I think I used split bus fronts and they were too long but worked. maybe they were bay window...
I picked up a disc beam, spindle to spindle, new ball joints and bushings, tie rods and backing plates. Super cheap. but I need to buy some fuchs cause I don't want to go 4 lug and then buy everything to switch it over later. So I'm going to do a later master now... |

I used T3 parts for all brake hoses but T3 has two different lengths to front and I can't remember anymore which one I used. I think it was the shorter one as the longer one was same lenght as '61 bus and it was way too long.
Rear ones where too short (meant for a T3/65) but could be used and front ones were correct. I'd assume the later versions would have been correct, about an inch longer.
The threads are identical (M10*1mm) so you could measure the old ones and buy new ones based on length only.
Anyway, a huge difference as the all the old hoses were acting as a one-way valve and brakes stuck permanently as soon as I pressed the brake pedal. _________________ Kharon -- '63 typ14, '61 typ2, '65 typ34

On my '64 Type 34, totally stock setup, I used the following:
Front - Meyle brand, Part Number 100 611 00 03 (VW Part Number 113 611 701 D), which is a 382 mm long male to female hose, M10 X 1.0 mm.
Rear - Meyle brand, Part Number 100 611 00 01 (VW Part Number 211 611 775 B), which is a 274 mm long female to female hose, M10 X 1.0 mm.

I got my front hoses from Jim Adney. They were 380mm long, and he has them in stock. They work great with the wide 5 disc kit, and according to Jim, are the same length as those used with early disc brakes. For the rears, I used some bus hoses on it, that I already had in stock. I also used a 67-68 bug steel line kit from WW, but had to replace the left front line as it was too short. I also converted to Dot 5 brake fluid, just to help keep the rust out of the brake system. I had no troubles with it going from sea level up into the mountains of Colorado this summer. I used a standard t-3 dual chamber resivoir, and blue hosed from it to the master cylinder. I just straightened out the strap a little, and added a spacer with a long screw to hold it in the stock location (ask Greg how it looked ). _________________ Bob 65 Notch S with Sunroof

thanks guys. cross reference of the part number for the front says standard beetle 67 and on, and 66type 3 with drums which never existed in the US. So that makes sense.
Greg, can you re-check the rear number? I see bus (211 part number) as 211 611 775 instead of 755 for 270mm
I should be able to get those all locally. much thanks! |

Damn typos...211 611 775 B for the rear. Sorry.
Bob's dual brake fluid reservoir installation was a thing of beauty and I'm tempted to go the same route with mine.
I had Jim Adney go through a NOS single circuit master cylinder and freshen it up. I doubt it'll ever get used. |

Hi Erik I followed that lead you had in AZ but to much going on with the vin situation and swaped pans and stuff didn't really want to mess with that.
A fellow samba member sent me an email from my "want to buy" ad in the classifieds and we strucked a deal on this 65 type S its in decent shape with some issues here and there but I'm happy with it. And the guy I bought from is a VW fanatic with some nice toys and a nice guy. Its not really a daily driver right now but I'm going to start wrenching on it SOON ! I want to take it to the Solvang show
If anyone has a dipstick for sale please let me know or good door hinges or a glove box
And the paint looks wayyyy better in this pic than in person lol
but its got porsche pattern disc uf front and drilled drums rear so my Alloys should look nice on here

From the pic, it looks mostly complete which is a BIG plus on these cars. Nice score. If you go back toward the begining of this thread, you'll see a link that Frank Foxx wrote up about rebushing the door hinges using "off the shelf" HELP parts. It does work on tightening them up, and is a cheaper alternative to 300 dollar rebushed hinges.

There are a few of us in TX. Two of us down south of Houston, N8 is in the Denton area. There is another one in the Austin area but no one has heard from that guy in a while. Then there is also one of the nicest type 34's, a black '66 with red interior, in the Dallas area, in a rather large collection of VW's. As far as I know, it's actually in Houston right now, getting some minor work
I do have a lead on a back window, but it will not be cheap. At least $250, probably more
And N8, whats up with the clumn? don't have one all together? Or certain parts are not functioning? Cause, I will tell you from experiance on my notchback, It's easier to fix what you have than find a whole one where everything works. ISP West sells the ignition switch. PM Me and I'll tell you who has a turn signal switch for sale. Neither one are cheap. I have the ISPW ignition and it works like a champ |

so I have been working on getting the ball rolling on reproduction dash and knee pads, also door panel pads as well. I got a new sample for the dash pad, and a good used knee pad. I was told by a fellow t34 fella that there was a small run of these dash pads a few years back and only 12 or so were made and sold. my question here is who made them? is he still able to make more? would he consider making another 12-24 pcs or have someone else like me pick up the tab to do so. I do not know of anyone that actually makes these kind of pulls, believe it is vac form.... the one I have looks pretty darn good, and I would hate to go thru the same process again, if we could simply order more from the mold already made. any thoughts are greatly appreciated! Actually I have everything on the column, switch works... Turn signals I don't know yet. I'll be working on the them this weekend. I want to have a correct column, hence why I'm looking. I know what I have is not correct. |

That was back in the 90's, I was lucky enough to get one of those with my '65 when I bought it in '92. The last one I saw for sale, exchanged hands at a Classic not too long ago. _________________ Cancer, You have claimed another beautiful life, but You will be defeated....

I have a nice one, but shipping from OR to Tx will likely be a cocksuckeur! Don't know if Weatherly is still making that commute, but if he is, maybe it could ride along. Just a thought. _________________ Give A Pal a Hand!

| i wonder if what is being referred to here is The "Dapper Dash", apparently done by Tim Dapper back in the early '90s. I bought one of these from Paul Colbert a few years ago and test fit it to 2 Type 34s, with the same result: it's shrunk a bit from end to end. Maybe as much as 3/4" and I heard this was a common problem with them. Still looks pretty good, though, and with a little adjusting is very presentable. |
