Welcome....

There should be a tab welded to under side of top beam tube and the 'clamp' will index into tab.... This will locate the steering box.... The clamp will have two notches in it, one is for correct angle to mount box in a bug the other notch is for correct angle mounting box in a Ghia... Just use notch that gives best angle or ignore notch/tab altogether...

Really early model stuff before indexing tabs...

Mount box approximately 4 inches over from shock tower (vertical portion)....

Thanks dale.
Is the angle anything specific or do we just try and get the tie rods flat.

If the box in the pictures is yours, then you have a worm and roller.

But like dale said...it doesn't really matter. They mount the same as the earlier style boxes. Truth be told, they really are not as week as people say they are. The difference in durability between the worm and roller and the worm and sector type is minimal. The sector shafts are slightly more durable when you constantly shock load them because they are one solid piece and slightly thicker, but the worm and roller wears less because of the reduced internal friction. They are both fine boxes, and can be made very durable by a few tricks, like the washer trick.
