I just have a quick question about roof racks. What diameter is the tubing normally? _________________ All the good deals in the world will still make you poor.
I'll finish it!... Some day....
Edit, I started in 2003 and still haven't built a driving Baja. lol |

I built mine with 1/2" tubing, the rack on the notch appears to be about the same diameter. _________________ OGST

How did you weld it? Brazed, gas, MIG ? _________________ Toby http://www.aircoolednut.com/

I ended up using stainless steel fasteners. All I have is an arc welder, and even on the lowest setting the tubing would burn through very easily. Brazing or gas welded would be the way to do it, though, if I have the equipment. _________________ OGST

I've always wanted to get my hands on the perfect rack, but they are oh so hard to find.
I want a rack for my 67 sqbk, the only thing it will be used for is my surfboard. I really like the look of the old Volvo rack, nice size and a very low profile. I don't like the tall racks. i think i'm going to get some regular Thule or similar racks that are nice and easy to remove for my board. |

I removed the "Dealer Installed" rack off of my 67.
You know the one? Drilled right to the roof???
I was planning on buying a powder coated "clip-on" from Flat Four.
Your's looks real good! |
I snagged two of these from a wrecking yard figuring they would make good swap meet material. The dealer went wrong by not insulating the rack from the rooftop, which is why one of the roofs I pulled a rack from was rusted. _________________ West Virginia State Board of Education v. I too have a Conner rack that doesn't fit well and slats move around and I have to bend(carefully) all the support struts to make it fit. It was many inches off. [email protected] _________________ [email protected]
