I know that feeling too. I found my Super in an ad cheap. Dirt cheap. I figured it was going to be loaded with rust, I'd strip it, sell the parts and scrap it. I get there and it's pretty solid. Then my thoughts turned to flipping it. Now I'm keeping it and have spent over $1000 on a car I picked up for a few hundred, and still don't have it on the road.

I can't do anything half assed either. Just not in my DNA. Still trying to figure out if that is a good thing or a bad thing.

It's an expensive thing:

right side engine compartment shelf
right side firewall
right rear inner fender
right side cross member
right rear quarter

all I wanted was to do is put in a new engine compartment seal, and it's still not in.

That's for sure. I have 2 bugs: 74SB & 61 Ragtop. Both need to be restored because I want them "RIGHT" and I want my 61 to be my "show car" but I have no experience at body work and I want to do as much as I can myself so I started restoring the 74 first to school myself. The "death foam" I thought would be the only "major" project. WRONG! Once you start digging you find more rust. So far I've fixed both sides of the death foam from the inside, am working on replacing both heater channels, needs both quarter fenders, major work on both sides of the inner front fenders, rear fenders are rusted away behind the stone guards, firewall needs lots of work, major work at front bumper mounts, and various other areas of rust. Strange part is my pan is in very good shape. Now, when it comes time to do the body work on the 61 I should be in good shape because I've pretty much done everything to my 74. Then you throw in the time and cost of all the "mechanical parts" and the price to do this job "right" goes up even further. But, I'm not doing this to make money. It's a hobby no different than playing golf only I got something in the end. Very Happy

My engine might go in today. I should really put new input shaft and final drive seals in the tranny, I want to get her running and inspected first. I'll do it when it comes time to do the drivers side bulkhead inner fender and firewall, they are all serviceable right now and should pass inspection. Unlike the structural Bondo and painted carpet I had on the passenger side.

Is the trans leaking at the cv shafts? I put final drive seals in the Thing. What a pain in the ass. If it isn't leaking I'd leave it alone.

You and I are too much alike. $5 part ourselves in to full restorations. Smile

That is some major thick bondo on that bad boy! I really love the green, though. My approach to keeping my "driver" going is the 50 foot rule.
If you stand far enough away, it looks pretty good. As time goes on, I try to make it a little better every month or so, and hopefully over the next decade or so, it will turn out pretty nice!

That's a great colour. Good to see you save this one vs. junking it.

The more I do the more I question, why am I fixing a parts car? The parts off of this one could have gotten my other '70 on the road very quickly. I'm in way to deep now she will be a driver by spring. Soon as I can get more parts.

Think the front fire wall is next, then pans and channels. Beam as time allows.

A couple little parts is all the budget would allow for now. Sad

One of the pivot pins is missing, that explains thinking I lost a wheel while towing it home.
