hi, i have read and watched a lot about setting the end float so understand that process, however i am a bit confussed about moving the crank in and out.
when i move the fly wheel out it rotates a couple of degrees, i am assuming that it is because of the crank/cam gear meshing and it moves about .035"(2 shims fitted). if i dont let the crank rotate i can get anything less than that.
the crank, flywheel, casings are the same as before the rebuild.

should i be letting the flywheel rotate?

The crank rotation does not mean a lot as long as final end play (float) is .003 to .005 ...

NO... I mean rotation is non issue.... .003 to .005 total movement.... period.... IF you just do a push-pull on crank/flywheel to set end float there is not going to be enough rotation to make any difference....

Try turning the engine over to where the crank is at top dead center, or bottom dead center, then it usually doesn't rotate when you measure the endplay.

Pull the rockers off. The crank will not rotate now when you move the crank laterally.
