People generally think that the engines must be phased for even firing, but this will make the coupling fail as the two engines try to do different things at the same time. Let both engines fire at the same time and it will work.
It has been done before - I have seen a double VW engine with welded cases and twin cranks, but I suspect that bolting them together is a better solution if the coupling has some degree of freedom.

We boat at Lake of the Ozarks in Missouri and the Baccardi Silver cat had a pair of these bad boys... not VW, but dang, what money can do !!!

Thanks for the responses and input to my question...

O.K. I know about Porsches' 8...

Has anyone made a VW flat 8...?

I did look through the older topic started a few years back, but not any real pics...

I was wondering if anyone's done it recently in 2000's...?

Also, I know a flat 4 can pump out some nice power if built right...

I just was digging around for unique engines for the VW's...

How about a Porsche V10 from the Cayenne in a Bug!!! LOL!
