The rack built for the type 2 has an adapter for a 3rd bike.

I'm not knowledgeable at all about the fiamma products, but the page you linked to says that's for the Vanagon bike carrier. Will it work on the t2 version (not sure what all of the differences are). |
I have one of these racks and think it's great. There are a shed load of Fiamma rack accessories for sale here in the UK for the T2, including supplementary rails for carrying not just three, but up to four bikes apparently! I haven't purchased any of those myself (yet) so cant say how effective they are, see here:

I just installed mine (from Bus Depot) and am very impressed. Really a nice rack and although it seemed pricey, my son (a bike nut) pointed out that a name brand roof carrier for most cars - load bars, adapters, and 2 trays will be over $500. He was impressed with the light weight, tray and clamp set-up and the secure mounting. The hatch stays open with the rack mounted but it doesn't take much to get it to drop so I may need a prop for camping with the hatch open. _________________ Dirk

here you go:
It's very easy to use and the clamps are nice and hold the bikes very secure.
We did get wet in the back last time we camped in the rain, but I don't know if that from the rack brackets. The hatch seal is still original on this bus. _________________ Dirk

Sorry I didn't get pics with the bikes on. Pretty simple though, they sit in the trays and the upper arms grab the seat posts. Bikes face opposite directions. What I really like is ladies frames are no problem for this style rack.
I did test for leaks and the top clamps compress the weatherstrip causing a major water leak at the gap at the edges of each top clamp. Not good! That's why the sleeping bags were all wet! Next time I may try slitting the weather strip to relieve the gap to see if that fixes it. I hate to do anything destructive although it is still the original weatherstrip, maybe a new one would help, but I doubt it. _________________ Dirk

I'm replying here to finish my original thread regarding the twisted long arm because the original thread has been locked. I spoke with Bus Depot, and to my surprise the arm does twist at the crimped end. It took quite a bit of force to get it to move - so much so that I was afraid something might break. It didn't break, and now the rack is as it should be. |

Got my Fiamma mounted up for a trip to Gearhart this weekend with the wifey. It's been sleeping in the garage attic for a few years.
I forgot how great this rack is, although the rear hatch seal historically leaks a little in the rain. Nice and light and easy to mount and use.
Just carrying two vintage AD-Puch road bikes, nothing too big or heavy. _________________ 1978 Sage Green P22 Westfalia

Just assembled mine, it installed yet. Are the pieces of adhesive film enough to protect the paint? Was wondering if I should use some rubber from some bicycle inner tubes I have in the garage or would it be overkill. _________________ Our bus is on Instagram

It’s probably not necessary. But I put strips of electrical tape on the back of the
bracket that touches paint. Because it made me feel good _________________ Keep on Busin'

While this thread is up here I want to note that this carrier will not support any more than two bikes. _________________ |
