Hi everyone

I am the 56 oval owner ( pre-march 56 - chassis 11264xx ) L41 black with grey cloth as original.

Nowadays the interior is different than the original and I want to restore all the upholstery but I can not find photos of this configuration. L41 black with grey cloth.

I have the same problem with the headliner, I can not find any image.

Could someone help me?

Thank you very much

I believe this is what you're looking for. From the gallery. you can get the cloth "punktchen grey/green" from here http://www.himmelservice.de/english/home.html

Anything is possible. IF you have brown vinyl, so be it. If you have brown piping (are you sure it's not just discolored from age?) so be it as well, but for sure that unless you have a completely custom vintage interior, the cloth you are looking for is from himmel service, that is the cloth that came on a VW in 1956. Therefore you have a couple of options, IF your vinyl and piping are in ok condition, you can have an interior installer create your interior using the himmel service cloth with your piping and vinyl.

You can verify much of this by looking at the pdf of the following 56-67 paint and upholstery brochure in the archives. Cloth for a black 56 looks like what I've stated. http://www.thesamba.com/vw/archives/lit/56_57colors.php again, just click on the pdf file.

FWIW, here is an interior photo of oval forum contributor Kjell Roar's Aug 55 build 56 Nile Beige sedan. Note that his cars sports the same basic material but in beige.

Here is a link to oval window forum contributor blauchen L331's horizon blue 57 interior - same interior in blue - same basic material. Best photos are on page two of his thread. http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=5...p;start=20

again, the point is you have a 56 with cloth interior, then its one of those colors in that pattern, UNLESS you have a standard model, but then it shouldn't have vinyl or piping. It might help if you post a photo of what you currently have for interior.

Finally, there is this piece of literature (courtesy of an old post from IN2VWS) that states for a black car, light grey cloth and light grey beading.

unfortunately no that literature belongs to the samba member previously mentioned. However, given your chassis number - that could very well explain why you have brown piping rather than light grey and maybe brown vinyl on your panels, VW could have made a minor change just after your chassis or it could just be randomness on VW's part. JMO, but if your vinyl is usable, get some cloth from himmel service and have the panels made and if you need brown vinyl, you might try Sewfine. Good luck.

I think the piping changed between march and april. Colormatched up to march, and white from april 56. Probably due to production costs. Thats mainly what I can see from other cars. But a lot of cars have changed interior thru the years.

Shouldn't the OP's car have Grey "Puntchen" with Dark Grey piping???

Ingrid Oppermann in Hamburg is the BEST place to get your material, BEST 1955 to 1957 German Style Cloth remade in the world, her interiors are in all the famous European Concours Restorations, expensive but worth every cent, my old Diamond Green Metallic L 142 car had a complete Oppermann interior/headliner/carpet/seats put into it back in the early 1990's and it still looks factory fresh 20 years later!
