I saw a beetle in VW trends that had the doors suicided with the original hinges. Anyone know how difficult it is to do with the originals? Or maybe some more pics of it done this way, so I could get a better idea perhaps?
thanks,

i've seen it done with stock hinges before too,.it's just a matter of welding talent and being careful. as far as pictures i realy don't know, keep searching, you'll find it. _________________ Frank

Several drawbacks when using the original door hinges during a suicide conversion. #1, strength. New hinges are a lot stronger than the hinges VW used 40+ years ago. Technology has evolved in the auto industry.
#2, esthetics. New modern hinges will give the door a completely smooth look. No visible hinges. Looks cleaner since you'll be shaving the door handles anyway, right?
But if you still want to use the stock hinges, here's the easiest method:
Imagine a letter "X" on the roof of your car. At each end of the X, is where the new parts will be attached. Example: The drivers side front hinge will be the passenger side rear hinge. You'll need to section the entire door, NOT just remove the hinges and mount them up. Good luck. _________________ 1947 Typ 11a
