Well, another crap Mel Gibson flick delivers a VW junkyard of epic proportions. This may have been discussed in the "VWs in Film" thread, but I'm trying to pinpoint a specific location and would like to discuss this and possible other similar yards in Mexico.

The movie is set in Tijuana, but is obviously a fictional tale and I don't think any of it was filmed in Tijuana. I'm going to assume they didn't create the junkyard just for the movie

So here is a screen shot from the movie:

By doing a little online research, they list filming locations as:

Brownsville, Texas, USA
San Diego, California, USA
Veracruz, Mexico
Veracruz, Veracruz, Mexico

Verazcruz isn't too far from Peubla (where the factory is)....but a little more research found this photo:

Which came from this link: http://www.nationalgeographicstock.com/ngsimages/explore/explorecomp.jsf?xsys=SE&id=1273471

Location is listed as Monterrey, Mexico.

Can anyone confirm this location, or the existence of a junkyard in Veracruz??

Maybe someday I could go visit one of these epic junkyards, but for now pictures are all I have. Thanks for any information you may be able to provide!!!

I found this "private" yunkyard a few months ago, close to Mexico City. The security guards on the main gate told me the cars and parts were not for sale.

Oh well, one man's crap is another man's pretty decent movie. Wink It was a lot more memorable than a lot of this CGI crap crashing onto screens these days.
That bug wrecking yard was cool, and depressing at the same time. To me it means the tapering off of production demand for a lot of parts for ACVW's.

Seeing as there is a MK3 Jetta in the first picture (screenshot from movie) it would appear to be an actual working junkyard.

It was very difficult to find this location, found nice forum last year on this very yard and had more pictures, but cannot find again...maybe they pulled it over copyright or who knows?? Was told there is more than one such yard, as recently as last month, by a truck driver returning from Mexico.

I did this. There is a man peeing on the other side of the road. Google maps does it again.

Just imagine the "get the gringo" being said by numerous cell mates in Mexico, not a VW part in the world worth that.

Looks like Mexico is building it's own wall.

Its all late model crap. It’s probably all smashed by now. They outlawed two door taxi’s, so all the vw’s had to go.
